Chapter 0082
“Love, I missed you so much!”
“I missed you too, but…” Maximus hesitated.
“I know, I know! I’ve been a bad girl. There’ll be time for you to punish me later…”
“Alexia, I need to go back home. You know I don’t like celebrating Christmas.”
“I know, which is why there are no decorations here. For me, it’s just another day. Think of this as a reconciliation dinner, not a Christmas dinner, okay?” he said, wrapping her arms around him.
Maximus hesitated, but Alexia began kissing his neck, desire that made him forget everything else.

but bedroom walls bore witness to their fiery love affair. They were two lovers seeking to become one, the problem was that Maximus had a wife–a wife who was waiting, thinking she’d have her first family ⚫ Christmas dinner.
Dawn broke, and Maximus awoke with a pang of guilt He needed to return to the mansion before Alexia returned to Valeria. The house had been peaceful lately, and he didn’t want to ruin that. Little did he know, the damage was already done. This night would be the spark that ignited an explosion in his marriage.
Maximus kissed Alexia on the cheek and left. Driving quickly, he reached the mansion and noticed the garden lights still on. When he entered, the house smelled of food. He went to the dining room and saw the untouched, elegant dinner Mary had prepared. The sight of the two place settings pierced his heart.
He climbed the stairs and saw Mary’s bedroom door ajar. He hesitated but felt compelled to enter. Inside, he found the dress he’d chosen for her discarded on the floor. The necklace and earrings were also on the ground, but Mary was nowhere to be seen,
He walked toward the bathroom and froze. Hair and broken glass littered the floor, and red stains hinted. at blood.
“Mary! Where are you?” he shouted.
A faint sound came from the bathtub–a clinking bottle. The once cheerful, radiant woman was unrecognizable. Her makeup was smeared, her hair a mess.
Maximus carefully lifted her out of the tub. She was completely drunk–something he’d never seen before. He carried her to the bed, tucked her in, and stared at her small, fragile figure.
No excuse could justify his actions. He’d have to face her anger when she woke up.
Heading to his study, he found a small black box with a gold bow and a note:
[I hope you like it. I bought it with my savings. Merry Christmas.]
The gift stabbed him in the heart. Exhausted and guilt–ridden, Maximus fell asleep in the study.

The next morning, the noise of the staff woke him. When he went downstairs, he encountered a shocking scene. Mary, in her nightgown and a hat, held a garbage bag in her hands.
“Ma’am, are you sure you want us to throw out the tree and decorations?”
“Yes! Get rid of all this nonsense. There’s no love here so why pretend?”
“Mary! What are you doing?” Maximus demanded.
