Back in Lainavalle, Maximus had spent an entire week at his grandmother’s house, diligently caring for Mary. One morning, he had even surprised her by bringing her breakfast in bed.
“This is delicious, Maximus! I never imagined you could cook!” she exclaimed.
“Well, there’s a lot we don’t know about each other. Hot I’m not about to starve,” he replied with a sly
grin
“I see! It’s amazing. Want some?” Mary offered, holding out a fork with a piece of French toast.
Maximus accepted the gesture happily. Slowly but surely, Mary was lowering her guard, and he was thrilled by it.
Throughout the week, Maximus had shared a bed with his wife. It had started awkwardly–Mary had stayed as far to the edge as possible the first night, but by morning, she found herself wrapped in his warm, strong arms. She’d protested at first, asking him not to let it happen again. However, it soon became clear that it wasn’t Maximus pulling her close it was her, unconsciously seeking the warmth and comfort his presence offered.
On Friday evening after dinner, the usual nightly routine began. Maximus prepared her bath with hot water and lavender oil, as he’d done all week. But this time, something different happened. As Mary undressed, she paused and turned to him.
“Maximus, do you… want to bathe with me?” she asked hesitantly.
Maximus blinked in surprise but answered without hesitation. “Of course. I’d like that very much.
Quickly, he shed his clothes and carefully stepped into the tub, settling in behind her. Mary leaned back against his bare chest, closed her eyes, and let herself–elax.
Maximus gently began to sponge her shoulders and neck, his touch delicate. As he did, his mind raced with thoughts of how their marriage should have been from the start–peaceful, loving, and tender.
“Maximus, I’m tired of fighting. I don’t want a life like this anymore. I don’t want to keep running, or pretending everything’s fine. I want things to truly be fine,” she said softly, her voice trembling with vulnerability.
Maximus understood immediately–she was offering him another chance.
“I want the same thing, Mary,” he said earnestly. “I know I messed up before, but I’ll fix it. I promise.” He cupped her face gently, tilting it toward him, and kissed her warmly.
Mary returned the kiss, and in that moment, he felt forgiven. A warmth spread through his chest, unlike anything he had ever experienced–not even with Alexia..
After the bath, Maximus carried Mary to the bed and laid her down with care. For the first time in years, he took in the sight of her body. She was no longer the young, shy girl who had given him her virginity. Her body had changed, matured. She looked nervous, but as he leaned over her and continued to kiss

her gently, she began to relax.
Mary’s hands moved tentatively along his back, her touch innocent yer full of longing. When she didn’t pull away as he deepened their connection, Maximus took it as a sign that she trusted him again. He was tender, kissing and caressing her as though trying to memorize every inch of her.
The moment they became one, he moved slowly, making sure she was comfortable. He smiled when he heard her soft moans of pleasure and, feeling encouraged, let himself fully embrace the passion they shared. Both reached their climax together, leaving them breathless,
Maximus pulled her into his arms afterward, noting how her cheeks flushed and her eyes sparkled–just like they had five years ago. For a while, they simply gazed at each other in silence before falling asleep, tangled in each other’s embrace.
Maximus awoke a few hours later and found himself watching Mary as she slept peacefully. He reached out to brush a strand of hair from her face, marveling at her beauty. But the light from his phone caught his attention, snapping him out of the moment.
