After several days in the hospital, Mary was moved to a private room. The danger had passed. Now, only her physical wounds needed to heal, but they would also need to work on her emotional scars. During all those days, Catherine kept recalling how Mary had come into her life five years ago, bringing youth back to her and filling the void she felt from not having a daughter. Now, seeing her in this situation, she couldn’t help but blame her irresponsible and insensitive grandson. 

When Mary woke up, the first person she saw was her grandmother. Feeling a bit drowsy, she was relieved that everything she had seen in those short visions had just been a nightmare. 

“Grandma, I want a divorce,” Mary said calmly. 

“My dear, you’ve just woken up. Try to relax. What happened wasn’t something trivial,” the grandmother replied serenely 

Mary turned her head to look at the window. It was a sunny day, with no clouds in sight. It felt like destiny had given her another chance. Suddenly, she turned back to her grandmother, her eyes filled with tears. 

“Grandma, I want a divorce! I can’t take it anymore. I’ve loved Maximus throughout our marriage, but I don’t want to love him anymore,” she said as tears streamed down her cheeks. “It hurts to have come to this, but I’m tired, and if I don’t leave him, I know something bad will happen.” 

The girl had glimpsed her future, and it held nothing good for her. She could no longer keep loving Maximus; that love would kill her daughter and herself, When she told her grandmother this, she knew she couldn’t explain what she had seen while unconscious, so she simply said, “Something awful will happen.” 

“My dear, don’t rush things. Maximus is stubborn, but deep down, I know he’s a good person. In his heart, he still has the boy I raised with so much love and care.” 

“No, Grandma! I can’t wait to see that. I don’t even want to see him anymore. If I see him again, I don’t know what might happen.” 

“Sweetheart, please don’t cry anymore. You’ve just woken up, and it’s not wise to stress yourself so much. How will I explain to your grandfather or family if anything happens to you? No, no. I’ve spoken with Maximus. As soon as you’re discharged, you’ll come to my house.” 

In short, Mary didn’t want to see Maximus again. If she could avoid seeing him even during the divorce proceedings, that would be ideal. 

While she was talking and crying with her grandmother, they didn’t realize that Maximus was in the small adjoining room. He could hear everything Mary was saying. His expression was tired and cold, but his gaze was lost in memories. All these days, he hadn’t gone to the office and had devoted himself diligently to taking care of Mary as much as possible, with Emma relieving him only occasionally. For some strange reason that he couldn’t quite understand, he felt emotional seeing his wife lying in that hospital bed. 

Realizing that the first thing his wife asked for upon waking up was a divorce showed how desperate she must have been when she tried to take her own life. He had never seen beyond a young, inexperienced woman waiting for him at home with a meal and a smile. 

This time in the hospital had allowed him to bring to mind memories he had preferred to suppress.
