BONUS 

After several days at the mansion, Catherine had to leave on a trip for some family business. This time, she couldn’t take Mary with her, so before leaving, she said:” 

“Mary, I’ll be 

e gone for a few days, but you won’t be alone. Emma will stay with you. If you need anything. you can ask her.” 

“Yes, Grandma, don’t worry!” 

“Well, I’m off! I’ll be back in a couple of days. Try not to leave the mansion grounds.” 

“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.” 

That day, Mary didn’t do much besides have dinner and go to sleep. She always read the letter her grandfather had left her. She liked to imagine that he had just written it, as it didn’t have a date on it. All of this made her feel especially nostalgic. 

Meanwhile, around midnight, a Maybach pulled into the driveway. A handsome young man got out, his expression tired. He had little energy to go inside, but he couldn’t rest if he stayed sleeping in the car seat. Reluctantly, he got out and grabbed his luggage from the backseat. He entered the mansion and, leaving his bags in the living room, headed for the kitchen to get some water. 

The journey had been long, and he hadn’t eaten dinner. He wanted to refresh himself a bit before going to bed. It was only a few hours until sunrise, so he’d have some water and then go to sleep. The mansion’s lights were off, nothing unusual for him. However, as he approached the kitchen, he noticed a faint light coming from inside and began to approach cautiously 

That night, Mary was having trouble sleeping. It was already past midnight, and after tossing and turning in bed, she got up to get a glass of milk. She thought a little milk might help cure her mild insomnia. She walked barefoot to the kitchen, managed to reach a glass from the cupboard, and opened the refrigerator- door. She was pouring herself a glass of milk when suddenly she heard: 

“Who goes there? Show yourself!” a deep male voice called from the darkness. 

Mary jumped and dropped the glass, which shattered on the floor. The man grabbed the refrigerator door and yanked it open to see who the intruder in the kitchen was. Startled, Mary stepped back, and a shard of glass embedded itself in her foot, making her let out a small cry. 

“Who are you?” 

“M–my name is… Mary.” 

“And who are you?” 

Mary was scared and tried to remove the glass from her foot, but the man didn’t notice this; he was too surprised by the unexpected woman standing in front of him. 

“I asked you a question. Who are you?” 

“Mr. Maximus! Miss Mary!” said Emma, her voice filled with surprise.

Chapter 800 

“Mr. Maximus, she’s a quest of Mrs. Catherine. I see she didn’t tell you that she would be staying here,” Emma said as she rushed over to help Mary, who was trying to walk to a chair to remove the glass from 

her foot. 

Maximus hadn’t noticed what was happening until he saw Emma helping her walk over to a seat. Without thinking, Maximus was suddenly carrying Mary and Inspecting her foot. 

“Emma, bring me the first aid kit,” he ordered authoritatively. 

“Yes, sir, I’ll be right back,” Emma said as she hurried out of the kitchen, turning on the light before she left With the light on, Maximus could see the face of the supposed milk thief. In reality, she was a very charming and young girl. ‘Compared to me, she’s just a child,‘ he thought to himself. 

“Who are you supposed to be?” 

“I… I don’t speak… Valentian,” the girl said, her cheeks turning red. 

“I need to have a serious talk with my grandmother!” 

“I’m sorry!” Mary said. 

Emma returned with the first aid kit and began to explain why they were there. 

“Mr. Maximus, I’m very sorry for the inconvenience. Your grandmother isn’t at home. She had to leave because of vineyard matters, but when she returns, I’m sure she’ll give you a satisfactory explanation. In the meantime, I can only tell you that this is Mrs. Catherine’s guest, and she’ll be staying with us for an indefinite period. She doesn’t speak the language, but we’re already taking steps to address that, which is why she couldn’t answer you.” 

As she gave this long explanation, Maximus, who had initially arrived hungry and sleepy, was diligently cleaning and bandaging the girl’s wound. 

“My grandmother thinks my house is a hotel; I can’t believe this.” 

“No, sir, but believe me, if she had any other option, we wouldn’t be here. This was the best choice.” 

“Don’t worry, Emma, I won’t kick you out. But my grandmother’s explanation better be very convincing.” 

“I’m sure it will be, sir.” 

“Alright, you’re all set. Now just try not to put too much pressure on your foot.” 

“Thank you very much!” the girl said as the mysterious man let go of her bandaged foot 

He looked at her, and his expression softened into a slight smile. Then he walked over to the cupboard, easily grabbed two glasses, and filled one with milk and the other with water. He handed the glass to her while she was still seated on the stool. Meanwhile, Emma had already picked up the broken glass and cleaned the floor. 

“So, you’re my grandmother’s latest acquisition?” he said, letting out a light sigh as he drank his water.
