Chapter 0166
Alex’s gaze focused on Candice as if he could see through her, Candice’s fingers involuntarily pinched her palm, and she spoke calmly. “I had a prior appointment with Zane tonight. Inu think I should have abandoned Zane to meet Mr. Matthias, then I have nothing to say.”
“Do you think Mr. Matthias, lying here now, will still want to cooperate with Aether?” Alex was furious. His expression was dark, and his tone harsh.
Sonia was still standing to the side with her head lowered. It was hard to see what she was thinking.
Candice closed her eyes and was about to speak when a nurse approached. “The patient in bed thirty–two has awakened.”
Bed thirty–two was Conrad’s. Alex walked in, and Candice followed closely behind.
Conrad lay on the hospital bed, pale. He looked at Alex and gestured silently. “Mr. Elysian, it seems there’s a conflict between the destinies of Blue Artifact and Aether.”
His statement almost killed any possibility of cooperation. Alex’s expression darkened slightly.
Taking a deep breath. Candice spoke gently. “Mr. Matthias, take a good rest first. Work matters
can wait. There’s plenty of time to discuss them later.”
Conrad’s expression was still not great, and his secretary had hurriedly returned, contacting his family.
Candice and Alex had to leave. Sonia was still waiting outside, looking at Alex with worry. “Lex,
how is Mr. Matthias doing?”
Alex did not speak, and Candice followed after them silently.
When they reached the parking lot, Alex suddenly stopped, turned around and looked at Candice.
His gaze was intense, as if a storm was brewing within.
Coincidentally, Candice stood under a streetlamp, and was able to see his expression clearly. She
pursed her lips, hearing her own somewhat hoarse voice. “I’ll come over to apologize to Mr. Matthias later.”
Alex remained expressionless. He was tall, with well–defined features and a strong sense of
presence as a result of his high position. Combined with a stern expression, the pressure emanating from him was strong.

After a while, he suppressed his Icy gaze and said emotionlessly. “You don’t need to intervene in
Blue Artifact’s matters anymore.
Candice’s eyes snapped up. “I said I would contact Mr. Matthias again.”
Do you think you’re that important? Alex sneered. ‘Don’t overestimate yourself.”
Despite the summer night, Candice fell a chill run through her body. She stared at Alex, and event after a long time, she was not able to utter a word.
Alex stared at her emotionlessly. Tve said it from the beginning. Blue Artifact isn’t something for
you to play with.”
Candice looked at him in silence. Did Alex think she was playing with Blue Artifact?
She had stayed up late working on plans, collected information on Blue Artifact from all sources.
and tried to arrange a meeting with Zane. Yet, in Alex’s eyes, she was just “playing“.
This was all because Sonia had made a mistake. And Alex, unwilling to blame Sonia, had shifted
all the blame onto her.
Candice took half a step back, trying to keep her posture straight, not wanting to show any
weakness in front of Alex.
“Candy! It’s really you!” Through a daze, Candice seemed to hear Yvonne’s voice. She thought she was imagining it, and frowned, trying to shake it off.
A woman ran up beside her, and it was indeed Yvonne.
She rubbed her hands and looked at Candice, distressed. “Candy, your grandfather refuses to see
Candice was still catching her breath, and her head was buzzing. “Why are you here?”
“I’ve been waiting outside. I wanted to see your grandfather. Only your grandfather can help Ivor.
Candy, please be obedient and ask your grandfather to help Ivor!”
This time, Yvonne had come to Dorrington for Ivor’s troubles, but her father had been unwilling to
see her. So she had waited nearby. Coming out of the restroom near the parking lot moments
before, she had spotted Candice.
Initially, she thought that it was someone resembling her daughter, but when she had realized it was indeed her, she had hurried over.
Yvonne looked at Candice and felt like crying. Her facial injuries had yet to heal, however, so her expression did not look pitiable but instead somewhat terrifying.

“Candice, why is your mom in Dorrington? Is something wrong?” The concerned voice of Sonia sounded. Only then did Yvonne notice someone beside Candice.
She stared blankly, squinting to see Sonia and Alex. Slowly, her mind reacted, recognizing them as Candice’s boss and colleague whom she had met in Noxville last time..
The girl had even told her that Candice had a contract, and if she left the company, she would get a considerable amount of money.
Candice did not know what Yvonne was thinking, but she did not want to stay any longer. She grabbed Yvonne and was about to leave. “Where are you staying? I’ll take you there.”
Sonia chipped in. “Candice, your mom seems to have an emergency. If there’s anything I can help with, please let me know.”
At the offer, Yvonne broke free from Candice’s grip, turned around and looked at Sonia. Her eyes were full of hope. “Can you really help me?”
Sonia was obviously taken aback. She had just offered out of politeness, and hadn’t expected Yvonne to take it seriously. She could only nod reluctantly. “Tell me what you need first.”
Yvonne suddenly turned to Alex, as though she had just figured something out. “Right, you are Candy’s boss. You must be wealthy. Please, I beg you, can you lend me $500,000? I’ll pay you back!”
Hearing Yvonne’s words, the blood drained from Candice’s face. “Yvonne Sundance!” She reached out to pull Yvonne, her body trembling. “Can you leave me some dignity?”
