Chapter 0168
Sonia’s voice was not loud, but everyone in the office was focused on Candice, and they heard her
clearly.
Someone could not help but ask curiously, “Sonia, what do you mean? Isn’t Candice responsible for liaising with Blue Artifact?”
“Candice has a lot on her plate at the moment. She might not be able to handle everything, so Mr.
Elysian wants her to take it easy and deal with immediate matters first, Sonia answered naturally. Although she didn’t explicitly say it, there was the obvious implication that the change. was because Candice had not handled her own family affairs well.
Such a response did not really leave room for criticism.
Candice did not say anything and turned back to her desk.

was a bit absent–minded, and coupled with the lack of rest the night before, she had a slight
headache.
She supported her forehead with one hand and closed her eyes to try to relax.
She fell asleep the moment she closed her eyes.
In a daze, she seemed to hear Yvonne’s voice, hearing her shouting and crying in the company.
pleading with Alex, willing to kneel and beg him to lend her fifty thousand dollars.
Chaotic and disjointed images flipped through her mind. Candice frowned harder and harder, and
in the midst of Yvonne shouting her name, she opened her eyes abruptly.
The lingering fear in her heart was still present. Candice’s throat felt dry. She looked at her phone
and saw that only five minutes had passed.
The video incident was widely discussed in the company, especially in the anonymous group. Throughout the morning, people continued sending messages and gossiping about it.
Since it was an anonymous group, nobody exposed their own information, so everyone felt free to
speak their minds.
The group had initially been created to gather feedback from employees when Candice first joined Aether, but now it unexpectedly turned into a place for gossip.
At noon, Candice had no appetite, so she skipped lunch.

Kayla brought her a cup of soy milk. “Candice, those people are just talking. Don’t let it bother you too much.”
Kayla had watched the video too. She had lamented at the realization of how difficult Candice’s family situation was.
However, there were only a few people in the company who shared Kayla’s perspert
During the lunch break, news about Candice being removed from the Blue Artifact project spread throughout the company.
When Tamia came to find her, her expression was complex. She asked Candice. “Are you sure you want to resign now?”
Candice looked a bit tired, the aftermath of a sleepless night taking its toll with a throbbing headache.
“What brings you here?” she asked hoarsely,
“Double–check your information, and if everything is fine, sign to confirm. We can then proceed to prepare your personnel file.” Tamia handed a form to Candice.
After a quick glance, Candice did not find any issues and signed the document.
Tamia looked at her and sighed softly. “Candice, I can only wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”
Candice hummed an acknowledgment. “Thank you.”
Having endured a challenging day at the company, Candice was visibly exhausted.
When it was time to leave, her complexion did not look well. Seeing Candice’s condition, Kayla
decided to accompany her downstairs.
“If you really can’t drive, consider calling a designated driver. It’s safer,” Kayla said.
Candice knew that she could not drive in her current state and nodded as the elevator doors
opened. Alex and Sonia were inside.
Sonia held a folder in her hands, and Candice immediately recognized it as the documentation she had prepared for the Blue Artifact project.
Lowering her gaze, Candice did not enter the elevator. She did not want to share the space with
Alex and Sonia.

“Candice, come in quickly.” Sonia said, “It’ll get crowded soon.”
Candice considered refusing, but a few more people arrived behind her. After exchanging greetings with Alex, they walked past Candice into the elevator.
If Candice still refused to enter the elevator at this point, it would be too obvious.
She could only purse her lips and step into the elevator.
When the elevator stopped, Candice did not hesitate at all. As soon as the doors opened, she walked out.
What she did not expect was to see Yvonne standing just outside the company entrance, looking around anxiously.
She was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday, her face full of worry.
Suddenly, Candice remembered when Yvonne first came to Dorrington to find her all those years
ago. She had also been waiting outside Aether like this.
Candice had forgotten how she felt back then. But it definitely was not the same sense of powerlessness and fatigue she felt now.
She didn’t even have the energy to be angry.
Exhausted, all Candice wanted was to find somewhere to lie down and rest.
Yvonne had already spotted her, however, and walked towards the company entrance briskly.
It was only when Yvonne approached that Candice suddenly noticed how pitifully small and frail
she looked now. Her skin was dark, her hair dry, and her eyes lackluster.
She appeared completely different from the gentle image Candice had of her mother in her
memory.
Yvonne noticed Candice’s momentary daze. She smiled awkwardly and approached. “Candy, are
you off work? I’m here to pick you up.”
