Chapter 0019
Candice’s straightforwardness left Jackson speechless.
“It’s okay if you can’t.” Candice looked down. She realized she was out of line as well. “I’m just simply asking. Don’t take it seriously.”
Jackson stayed quiet for a moment and asked, “Candice, can I ask why?”
“Nothing. It’s just that I’ve been single for too long and I should try dating,” she
said.
She did not mention Alex at all, and Jackson did not ask.
After dinner, Jackson sent Candice home.
At the neighborhood’s entrance, they ran into Alex.
Alex’s black Bentley was parked next to Jackson’s car. He glanced at Candice, who had just come out of the car, before looking at Jackson.
Jackson nodded at him. “Good evening.”
Alex hummed and then with a meaningful look, he said, “Ms. Renault, it seems like you are not just good at being a secretary.”
Candice noticed his sneer in between the lines but she could not understand why.
He already had Sonia, and because of the girl’s insecurity, he hinted at her to find a boyfriend regardless of doing it openly and secretly.
Yet he sneered and teased her in front of Jackson.
Candice looked down for a bit before she parted ways with Jackson. “Thank you. I’ll return the jacket after I clean it.”
Jackson shook his head with a smile. “It’s okay. It’s just one of my old jackets.”
Candice knew Jackson was being courteous.
If what she proposed to him earlier was considered offensive, then she would have crossed Jackson’s boundary already.
He had been taught to be a gentleman since he was young and it was why he sent Candice home.
Candice was right about her menstrual cycle. It came early.
The pain tormented her in the middle of the night, causing her to sweat profusely.

Her face turned pale. She got up to take some painkillers and curled up on the couch.
The pain knocked her out after a while and when she opened her eyes, already the next morning.
it was
Her body was aching all over, and her hands and feet were cold.
Her phone was buzzing on the table as messages spammed her.
She forgot when she had joined a random group chat with Alex’s friends and they were talking about going somewhere right now.
Candice pondered for a moment. She texted the group, telling them she was
feeling unwell and could not show up.
She put her phone down and went to the kitchen to prepare some soup.
The warm corn soup was soothing and it warmed her belly.
Halfway through the soup, the doorbell rang.
She put the spoon down to answer the door.
Alex, in his casual outfit, was standing at the door bearing his usual cold air.
He looked at her and frowned. “You caught a cold?”
“No. It’s just my period,” Candice said.
Her period had always been on time and Alex used to remember her cycle.
He would never come to her place when she was menstruating.
