Chapter 0200
“Your grandfather experienced seizures this morning, and It’s best for the family to come to the hospital.”
At Dr. Brooks’s words, Candice immediately became alert.
She inquired about the situation, and after confirming that her grandfather had been attended to, she quickly prepared herself and left.
It had rained all night, and it was a bit chilly when she opened the door.
Candice hurried to the hospital, where Dr. Brooks, who had been on night duty, was still in her grandfather’s ward.
Candice looked at the elderly man lying on the bed, already in a deep sleep, her lips pursed, and her expression grim.
After Dr. Brooks finished the examination, he called Candice and the nurse out. “Your grandfather experienced seizures due to emotional stimulation and airway obstruction. The situation is very dangerous. There cannot be another occurrence.”
“I was given clearance yesterday for the patient to eat regular food,” the nurse explained quickly, clearly worried about being blamed. “I fed him carefully. There were no problems last night.”
“Why did this happen then?” Candice’s tone was not too good. The panic she felt when she heard about her grandfather’s condition still had not subsided.
She did not hire someone to take care of her grandfather just to worsen his condition.
The nurse sensed the seriousness in Candice’s tone and became even more anxious. If a hospital nurse mishandled a patient, not only would compensation be required, but there could be legal ramifications.
Given the old man’s condition not many nurses were willing to take on the responsibility. All it took was for something to go wrong and the family to be unreasonable, and there could be
serious consequences. However, Candice had offered a significant amount of money, so the nurse
had taken the job.
“He woke up suddenly around five in the morning.” the nurse explained. “I listened for a while and heard him saying he was hungry. I originally thought of preparing a nutritional drink, but he refused and wanted some porridge. Then a nurse from the next room came over to borrow something from me. When I came back with the porridge, he started having seizures.”
Candice could sense what had happened. She looked at the nurse with a calm gaze. “What did
you talk about?”
“She asked me why I hadn’t seen the old man’s children coming, and I said they must be busy.”
Everything fell into place in Candice’s mind. The nurse’s unintentional remark had triggered her
grandfather’s thoughts about Yvonne, bringing out strong emotions.
Before Candice left, Dr. Brooks frowned and spoke to her. “Dr. Zachman’s academic conference was suddenly rescheduled due to a wildfire there. It’s been postponed for a week.”
Candice looked up at him.
“If you know any other doctors, you might want to try contacting them. Better to be safe than sorry.
With this advice, Dr. Brooks left.
Candice felt low–spirited. Besides Chad, who else in Dorrington would be a good neurology
specialist?
But to get to Chad, she would have to deal with Alex.
