Chapter 0250
Candice looked up and flatly said, “I have no ties with them anymore. Do whatever you want.”
Alex scrutinized her with deep eyes, an unknown emotion brewing within them. He fiddled with the USB drive in his hand and nodded after a moment.
“Alright.”
Candice nodded and asked, “Is there anything else?”
Candice was feeling a bit resistant toward Aether Corporation and Alex now.
Alex was taken aback by her question. He raised an eyebrow and said coldly. “I’ve told you before
if you want to stand at the top, you can’t afford to be soft–hearted toward anyone.”
His dark eyes bore into her, laden with emotions that Candice couldn’t decipher.
“It seems that you’ll never learn.”
Candice’s face betrayed a hint of confusion.
It sounded like Alex had sighed. It was fleeting and filled with a feeling of helplessness and
resignation.
But she likely misheard.
Candice pursed her lips and walked out of the office.
After running a few errands, Candice returned to the villa where Hanley and the others were
preparing a barbecue.
Nadia held a bottle of cola and greeted her, “You’re back just in time. I was about to call you to
ask when you’d be back.”
Candice felt a bit dizzy, her head heavy.
She muttered softly, “You guys go ahead and eat.”
After saying that, she went upstairs. Nadia watched her retreating figure, hesitating to speak.
A deep, magnetic voice said from beside her, “Let her rest for a bit.”
Nadia turned to look at Hanley. Seeing his expressionless face, she couldn’t help but softly remind him, “Boss, I’ve noticed that Candice hasn’t been doing well lately. You should look after her a bit
more.”
She also added, “Don’t wait until she actually becomes someone else’s girlfriend before you regret
it.”
After a moment of contemplation, Hanley stood up silently.
Candice’s sleep was restless. She felt as if it were a dream but not quite..
Alex’s voice kept echoing in her ears, asking her if she remembered what he said.
“I’ve told you before if you want to stand at the top, you can’t afford to be soft–hearted toward
anyone.”
Candice remembered this sentence very clearly, even the exact moment he said it.
It was when the tension between him and the Elysian family had eased slightly.
It was Helen’s birthday, and Alex had to go home. Candice couldn’t accompany him back because
she suddenly needed to work overtime. She could only go pick him up after she was done.
The Elysian Manor was in a remote location, and it was surrounded by many trees to showcase.
the environment. However, the lighting along the entire road was dim because of this.
Alex knew about her night blindness and never allowed her to drive alone to the Elysian Manor at
night. But that night, he had drunk a lot.
