Chapter 0272
Candice was ready to go to the site.
Descending the stairs, she stated matter–of–factly. “I won’t share a car with Mr. Elysian. It doesn’t seem fitting. Mr. Elysian knows where the site is. We’ll meet there.” After making her intentions clear, she promptly exited without waiting for a response from Alex.
Her decisive exit left Alex rooted to the spot, his facial expression growing notably colder.
Sawyer had just finished organizing the transportation for his boss. He was startled by the icy atmosphere surrounding Alex.
During the drive to the site, Candice’s phone rang.
It was Jackson on the line, his voice laden with seriousness. “Candy, the court case against your parents is about to begin. You need to be mentally prepared.”
The evidence against the two was overwhelming, particularly for Ivor. His past criminal conduct had been thoroughly unearthed and presented for legal scrutiny.
Candice felt nothing at the information.
When Ivor committed those acts, he should have considered the consequences. Her mother’s involvement, whether as an accomplice or for failing to report, made no real difference. Both had
brought it on themselves.
As she watched the landscape speed by, Candice spoke with a detached tone. “I’ll be
submitting additional evidence. I intend to charge Ivor with murder.”
She hadn’t forgotten Peach’s revelations about Ivor attacking her grandfather and tampering with his life support device. However……
Her eyes flickered with thought as she added softly, “I need to confront Yvonne. There are questions only she can answer.”
Upon understanding her intent, Jackson offered no further comments.
Candice was the first to arrive at the construction site. Alex’s Maybach came shortly after. With a tense expression, she guided him through the site.

Shaun Wheatly and another young man, along with a few workers, were measuring dimensions on the site.
As Candice escorted Alex to the area, Shaun halted his work. “The boss just called me. He said Mr. Elysian is coming over for an inspection, right?” He optimistically noted, “We’re almost done with most of the planning. Just the wiring to finalize, and the
we can commence the major
installations.”
Alex surveyed the surroundings, his attention eventually drawn to a stack of gypsum boards in a corner. In a chilly tone, he asked, “Why are those gypsum strips piled over there?”
Shaun glanced at where Alex was looking.
They required an extensive quantity of gypsum boards and strips for decorative work. These had recently arrived and been inspected.
Shaun replied nonchalantly. “We’ve put them there temporarily while sorting out the wiring and measurements.” He thought Alex might not understand and clarified. “Those materials are intended for decoration…”
Before Shaun could finish, Alex cut in. “They’re piled too high and disorganized.”
“It was just a casual placement,” Shaun explained, slightly caught off–guard.
“With continuous movement around here, such casual arrangements can be risky. I won’t tolerate safety hazards on the construction site,” Alex countered with a deep voice.
Shaun’s expression shifted, the discomfort apparent as his smile diminished. “Mr. Elysian,
different fields have different practices. Perhaps you’re not entirely familiar, but a degree of casualness is occasionally required in our field. Being overly organized can stifle our creativity.” After making his point, Shaun suggested to Candice. “The boss advised you to get more rest.
There are chairs over there for you.”
Candice gave a slight nod and proceeded to sit down. She recognized that the resolution of Alex’s concerns was beyond her expertise and better handled by Shaun.
The moment she sat down, Candicebegan to feel tired, despite her previous high energy level. A
sense of fatigue and ache slowly crept over her.
Her phone rang with a message notification from Yana in their group chat.
As she glanced at her phone, she didn’t notice a nearby worker who was busy with
measurements, his work slowly bringing him closer.
Nearing the end of his inspection, Alex queried in a firm tone, “What’s the estimated timeline for

completion?”
“It depends on the wiring setup. Optimistically, a month, but it’s uncertain if it might take longer.” Shaun estimated.
Candice pocketed her phone and looked up. “Mr. Elysian, are you done with the inspection?”
Alex’s gaze met hers, cool and detached.
As Candice rose to her feet, she felt a wave of dizziness. She staggered slightly to steady herself.
Suddenly, she heard a rustling noise, followed by a worker’s urgent warning, “Watch out!”
The worker, who was engrossed in his task, had accidentally knocked into the stack of gypsum.
boards.
Before she could fully comprehend the situation, Candice was abruptly pulled aside. Then, she collided with someone. The haphazard pile of gypsum strips behind her tumbled down, stirring up
dust.
It all transpired in a flash, leaving Candice momentarily dazed.
The aroma that drifted toward the tip of her nose let her instantly know who she had bumped into. She looked up to see Alex with his brow slightly creased and his dark eyes intense.
Alex still had a firm grip on her arm, clearly the one who had swiftly pulled her to safety.
Shortly after, the realization of the mishap dawned on the others at the site.
Shaun was concerned. He stepped over the debris to reach them and asked anxiously. “Is everyone okay?”
Before Candice could finish replying, Alex’s chilly voice interrupted, “So this is your idea of casual
arrangements.”
Shaun’s face became pale. “This is the first time something like this has happened.”
“That’s exactly the kind of complacency I’m talking about,” Alex shot back, his voice heavy with the authority of someone used to being in command.

Shaun was left stunned. The worker who had run into the gypsum strips also appeared concerned.
