When Candice was snapped back to the present, it struck her that she had lost her calm and acted impulsively.
Darius and Henry were occupying her thoughts, and her emotions were in disarray.
Candice bit her lip and restrained her emotions. She said softly, "I'm sorry. I'm a little upset. You need to get some rest. I'll be outside if you need me."
"Who upset you?" Alex asked in a hoarse voice after a moment of silence.
His gaze was still fixated on Candice, and he waited for her response.
Candice shook her head and brushed it off. "I'm just feeling a little down."
"It shows," Alex observed.
He shut down his laptop. Then, he assumed a more relaxed posture with a calm expression. He lifted his brows a little and questioned, "Did Henry come looking for you?"
"You're reading too much into it," Candice denied.
"Is it Darius?" Alex continued to fix his gaze on her.
Candice clenched her hand and rebuked, "I already told you that it's just me feeling down."
Alex chuckled cryptically. He looked down to mask the emotions in his eyes.
After a while, he raised his gaze and asked, "Has no one ever told you that you make a lot of tiny gestures when you lie?"
Candice's fingers, which were digging into her palm, froze. She remained silent, evidently unwilling to discuss the matter further.
Alex stopped pressing an answer out of her. He took his pills and got ready to resume work.
Candice gave it some thought before she asked, "What do you think of Henry?"
"Pretentious, exaggerated, fake, sleazy, and a worthless piece of shit," Alex said without looking up.
The series of descriptions left Candice stunned. However, when she recalled the nasty content of the video, she felt that perhaps Alex wasn't wrong.
Before she could give this much thought, his voice was heard again, "Are you interested in taking a look at the things he has done over the years?"
