My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s) novel Chapter 398

Alex was looking at Henry as he spoke. Candice wondered how Henry would respond.

Alex's voice was cold and indifferent. "Mr. Renault doesn't seem to be very responsible. Otherwise, he wouldn't have let his own daughter be hospitalized without visiting her."

As his words fell, Henry was momentarily stunned.

But he recovered quickly, immediately wearing an expression of both surprise and heartache as he asked Candice, "What? Candice, you were hospitalized? But I called you several times, sent many messages, and got no response from you." He was about to stand up. "How do you feel now? Do you need to go back for another check-up?"

Alex's lips curved into an ambiguous smile, tinged with sarcasm as he said, "If you had hit her a little harder that day, you might still have the chance to express your fatherly love in the hospital now."

Alex was naturally acerbic, and he spared no effort in ridiculing Henry. Since Henry kept silent about his behavior towards Candice, Alex didn't mind bringing it up for him.

Henry's face turned ugly, but before he could speak, John spoke up again. "What do you mean? Mr. Renault didn't lay a hand on her at all. He didn't even touch her. You should know why he was so angry that day!"

John seemed even more agitated than Henry. Alex's eyes were deep as he stared at John, expressionless, just about to speak when he felt a subtle movement beside him.

Candice placed her hands on the table, her fingers intertwining. Then she slowly looked at Henry, sighing almost imperceptibly, looking troubled. But she finally spoke slowly, "Since your divorce with my mom, we haven't seen each other for ten years, and you haven't sent me any news. It's as if you've disappeared completely.

"You say you did it for my own good, but I'm not a child anymore. I think we should go back to how we were before."

She stopped talking after that, just sitting there quietly, but her mood seemed noticeably lower. Her attitude was not as tough as it was at the beginning, and even carried a hint of sadness. Combined with her originally frail appearance, it seemed quite capable of evoking sympathy.

The three ladies at the table looked at her with softer and more compassionate eyes.

But there was no emotion in Candice's lowered eyes. She had learned from Yvonne that learning from one's mistakes was essential.

Being tough wasn't the only way to solve problems; sometimes, showing weakness could also be a means to an end.

Someone else at the table couldn't help but intervene. "Hey, can't we finish eating first and then talk? This young woman has just been discharged from the hospital. What can't wait until after the meal?"

Stephan glanced meaningfully at Candice and nodded, "Since Mr. Elysian rarely comes to Solaris, let me offer my utmost hospitality."

Alex raised his glass and clinked it with Stephan.

Seeing this, Candice understood that this matter was now coming to an end.

Originally, she had only come to make her stance clear, not to argue about the truth of the matter.

She calmly turned her head and found that Henry was still looking at her.

Candice looked down and was about to shift her gaze away when the door of the private room was pushed open again.
