Candice found Daniel's guard and vigilance ridiculous. What did her pregnancy have to do with them?
Nina smiled and looked at Candice, then turned to Daniel. Seeing his obvious displeasure, she said with a smile, "Candice, we seem to have some fate between us. How about I become your child's godmother in the future?" There was more mockery and sarcasm in Nina's voice, and Candice knew she was doing it just to stir things up.
Naturally, she had no interest in getting involved with Nina.
Before she could speak, Helen's sharp voice rang out. "Nina, what nonsense are you talking about? She can't wait to climb up the social ladder by sticking to you, but you are now offering yourself to her. What do you mean by becoming a godmother? In the future, you and Lex should give me several grandchildren. That's better than anything else! Who knows what's in her belly—"
Candice could ignore insults about herself, but hearing Helen speak about her child in this tone, she could not help but frown. "Madam Sui, I hope you watch your language."
Nina looked at her, eyebrows raised, and seemed surprised.
Helen sneered. "What do you mean watch my language? At least I'm not like you. You used underhanded methods to get pregnant with Alex's child and want to elevate your status based on being the mother of the child and marry into the Elysian family, don’t you? Candice, I advise you to give up on this idea as soon as possible. How important do you think a child is? The child born of a woman like you is not wanted by our Elysian family!"
Helen's words were full of sarcasm and disdain.
Candice tried to suppress the anger in her heart, but she could not control it. She looked at Helen coldly. "Madam Sui, if you have delusions, please seek treatment. My child has nothing to do with your Elysian family or Alex!" Her expression and tone were cold and her eyes were chilling, as if they contained daggers that could pierce through Helen. "Furthermore, it doesn't need recognition from your Elysian family. On the contrary, if my child had a grandmother like you, that would be the beginning of its misfortune."
"You!" Helen never expected Candice to retort like this, and with such harsh words. Her face turned pale with anger.
