Candice's heart skipped a beat as she watched her phone without accepting.
The amount transferred wasn’t huge, but it was a four-digit number.
It couldn’t have been a mistake.
Another message popped up in the chat box. "Happy New Year."
Candice didn’t reply, but her eyes were fixed on the message, contemplating whether to block the person again.
Yana noticed her standing there, lost in thought, and asked, "What are you looking at?"
Candice handed her the phone. There were only a few messages exchanged between her and this "2," yet the person had just sent $8,888.
Yana said, "This person probably sees you as a little girl and thinks that by giving you a bit of sugar-coated poison, they'll have you eating out of their hand."
She took Candice's phone, and typed out a message quickly and sent it immediately.
When she returned the phone to Candice, Candice saw what Yana had sent.
"Sorry, my boyfriend would mind."
Since it was not someone important, Candice did not retract the message. Instead, she took her phone back and went to play games with the others.
After that, the person did not message her again.

The New Year holiday flew by, and shortly after returning to work, Candice heard the news that Alex had forcefully separated the Aether branch from the Aether headquarters, and that he had suffered considerable damage and paid a hefty price.
Candice heard the news in a taxi while on her way to wait for Hanley to get off work.
However, she didn’t react much. Sometimes when she thought about it now it felt like the years she spent entangled with Alex were like a dream.
Those times passed by so quickly, just like the scenery outside the car window rapidly receding, impossible to grasp.
