My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna) novel Chapter 939

I didn't know what to say, and we lapsed into silence. I felt afraid to continue the conversation. "Hendrix, I have something to attend to, so I'll hang up."

I couldn't help but feel sad as I did so. Since when had I become a coward? I disliked this feeling.

It was preposterous!

Back at the company, Sebastian was angry with me. "Arianna, I need an explanation."

We only had an hour of break time at noon, but I had been gone for two hours because I needed to make a police report. I was late even though I rushed back.

His brows were tightly furrowed, and his displeasure was clear.

Although I had told him everything, he was still angry. "I don't care what it is. If you leave your post during work hours, you are an irresponsible employee."

I apologized repeatedly. Knowing that he was angry, I chose to remain silent.

I listened quietly as he reprimanded me. As I remained silent, he stopped, looked at me, and said, "Go look for Linda and take on some tasks. I will consider you as being absent today."

I was stunned upon hearing that. I was only gone for an hour, but would still be counted as absent. How cruel a punishment!

But he was the boss. I was wrong, so I couldn't argue.

Naomi called me after Linda handed over her work to me. Naomi had clearly rested well.

I almost choked in surprise. I coughed a few times and said, "You think too much. I am working for him simply because I lack money now."

"Tsk tsk!" She tutted, feeling gossipy. "I'm not overthinking it. I just have a feeling."

She paused and said, "By the way, when are you going back to Jarold City? You said that you were short of money. Do you want me to lend you some..."

Probably feeling that something was wrong, she changed gears. "No, didn't you say that you are already married? Shouldn't you go and look for your husband? Why are you working in Mr. Milton's company?"

I did not know what to say, so I tried to avoid it. "Well, I still have something to do for now. I'm hanging up. I'll meet you some other time."

Our relationship was very complicated, and it was difficult for me to explain it.
