"Yes!" Dahlia seemed to have piqued Hendrix's interest. "Some time ago, we went to Myanway together and almost died there. You may not believe it. We all suffered a lot, especially Arianna. She is the one who went through the most. We were locked up in an operating theatre..."
As she said this, she whimpered and spoke in a whisper, as if to create a depressing ambiance for her tale.
I couldn’t see Hendrix's expression, but he didn't speak, so I thought that he was probably listening.
Dahlia did not continue, so Hendrix took the initiative to interject, "An operating theatre?"
"Yes!" Dahlia exclaimed, her voice breaking as if she might weep. "I don't know how to tell you, but it was a nightmare. Everything at that time was simply terrifying. Those brutes brought the girls over from our country just to use their bodies as a means of drug transportation. It was so torturous as we awaited our own surgeries, it was even more distressing than the surgery itself..."
"In order to help us, Arianna had to strike a deal with those criminals... And hence, she got into trouble."
I couldn't figure out what she was thinking at the moment. Did I get into trouble because I pleaded for their safety?
Hendrix uttered coldly, "Continue speaking!"
Dahlia said, "In fact, Arianna could've left safely without us. She seemed to be very familiar with the Milton family, and those criminals wanted to send her to Monsa, but she stayed. When she knew that we were to be operated on, she went to plead with Kaleb Becker..."
I frowned. All this while, I kept having the feeling that the way she described it sounded extremely misleading.
