Chapter 234 This Isn’t How the Fox Should Behave
“Really, that soon?” Shawn clicked his tongue. “Only a select few could keep things this quiet.”

A business associate of the Carters, from a wealthy family, laughed along. “It’s probably because the big names are worried about being swarmed by people who don’t know their place.”
“Exactly,” another person added. “What could a small business even do? Unlike Mr. Emyr, Mr. Keon, Mr. Shawn, and Mr. Sinnova–one of their projects could boost the entire Eragos economy. And don’t get me started on the profits! These elders have achieved so much, and they know the value of choosing the right business partners–it means unimaginable success for themselves and their future generations.”
The group chuckled, their excitement practically radiating, though they kept their thoughts to themselves. Even a small deal with these influential figures would set their fortunes in motion.
Charmaine could still taste the lingering sweetness of the cream on her lips as she sipped her tea, clearing her throat. Hearing them speak so recklessly, she raised an eyebrow but chose to stay silent.
Emyr, his expression unwavering, interrupted their conversation. “It’s getting late. Let’s call it a night,” he declared.
No one dared argue when the host spoke. Even though it was still early for the group, they all knew that after this, they’d just move the gathering elsewhere to continue their fun.
Charmaine stood up, gently guiding him toward the door.
Keon instructed the manager to hand over a bag, his words directed at Emyr but his eyes briefly flicking toward Charmaine. “You didn’t eat much tonight. There’s some light food in here–eat it if you’re hungry later.”
Charmaine offered a warm smile. “Thank you, Mr. Keon. It’s very thoughtful of you to look out for us.”
Keon gave a small smile in return.
They stepped outside, and the Maybach was waiting for them. Just as they were about to get in, hurried footsteps echoed from behind. Veronica, flustered and out of breath, called out, “Mr. Emyr!”
Charmaine turned around, raising an eyebrow. However, Veronica paid her no mind, rushing straight to Emyr.
Bending slightly, still catching her breath, Veronica’s voice trembled. “Mr. Emyr, may I speak with you for just a moment? Just a moment.”
Emyr nodded. “Go ahead.”
“I” Veronica hesitated, her eyes inadvertently glancing at Charmaine.
Sensing an opportunity, Charmaine decided not to wait for Emyr’s response and interrupted, “I’ll get in the car first.” She didn’t look back.
Seeing her move so decisively, Emyr’s expression darkened a little.
He turned back to Veronica. “So, you’re ready to speak now?”
Veronica bit her lip, her voice hesitant. “Mr. Emyr, I didn’t inform you earlier, and I just came here … Are

Emyr’s words were loaded with meaning. “If anyone should be angry, it should be Shawn?

Shawn was usually calm, but he didn’t tolerate anyone toying him. The games earlier were likely a form of revenge. Shawn probably knew that Veronica had gotten wind of his plans and used him to get information.
Veronica’s face drained of color, her hands shaking as she bowed. “Mr. Emyr, I know I was wrong. I’ve been so lost lately, feeling so confused. When I saw Shawn post about your gathering, I–I just had to-”
Emyr interrupted her. “Is this what you wanted to say?”
Her voice cracked, tears beginning to fall. “No matter what, I’ve always been the one left behind! Two years ago, I was sent away, and now, here I am again!”
