The voice belonged to a rugged man who suddenly emerged from the crowd of well–dressed guests. Clad in nothing but a tank top and shorts, his disheveled appearance was in stark contrast to the formal setting.
His eyes were bloodshot as he charged straight at Bennett.
“Weston? What are you doing here? Stop this nonsense!” Sophic exclaimed, her eyes wide with shock.
Ignoring her, Weston York grabbed Bennett by the collar and delivered a solid punch, sending him sprawling to the floor.
The blow was enough to jolt Bennett from his drunken haze.
“Help! Somebody help me! He’s trying to kill me!” Bennett shrieked as Weston raised his fist again.
Security guards rushed forward to restrain Weston, while the hotel staff looked on in alarm.
Alessa, who had been enjoying her birthday celebration, was now frowning at the commotion. This was the last thing she had expected–who would dare book her hotel for a special occasion again?
“Mrs. Alessa,” a manager nervously explained, “this man claimed to be Mr. Read’s nephew. He said he had something important to deliver, so we let him in. We didn’t expect this to happen …
Despite the interruption, she seemed more amused than angry.
“No harm done. Mr. Read, is this truly your nephew?”
”
Bennett, still reeling from the blow, scrambled to respond. “Yes, yes, he’s my nephew. But Weston, what are you doing here? You’re supposed to stay at home!”
Weston spat in Bennett’s direction. “Stay at home? If I hadn’t come here, no one would’ve known you’re trying to kill your own mother!”
Bennett’s face turned pale. “What nonsense are you spouting now?”
“Nonsense?” Weston scoffed and turned to Alessa. “Mrs. Alessa, I’ve heard about your reputation for kindness. Please, I beg you, save my great–aunt!”
“Weston, shut your mouth! This is not the place for your nonsense!” Bennett snapped, attempting to drag him away.
However, Alessa’s commanding voice rang out, halting him. “This is my banquet, Mr. Read–you don’t get to decide who stays or goes”
Her sharp eyes locked onto Weston. “Young man, tell me, what’s going on?”
Weston’s expression brightened with hope. He quickly blurted out, “My great–aunt–Bennett’s mother–has been paralyzed for years, suffering endlessly from her condition. Despite all the money he’s made, this ungrateful son has completely abandoned her! He doesn’t even pay for her stay at the nursing home; his daughter Charmaine has been footing the bill.

“And now that there’s a new medication that could alleviate her pain, he refuses to spend a single cent to help her! She’s in agony and she can’t hold on much longer!”
As he spoke, Weston broke free from the guards and pulled out his phone, displaying a photo from his gallery. His voice choked with emotion as he held it up. “Look, Mrs. Alessa. My great–aunt is younger than you, but she’s already at death’s door!”
“What photo? Weston, Look around! This isn’t a place for you to-” Bennett roared,
But, the words died in his throat when he saw the image on Weston’s phone.
The photo showed a frail elderly woman lying on a hospital bed.
