My sweet, Tyrant Lycan Mate novel Chapter 5

Chapter Five

 Keeping Interests Alive Zacks’ POV

I found myself staring at the world below Blackwell Hills.

I watched the couples who walked hand-in-hand, the children that played at the park, and the stray cats that slept out in the sun. Something about them now stirred something different inside of me. Something mixed with jealousy.

L used to not care about being isolated from the rest of the world: especially as it evolved. From horses to cars, from small homes to sky-high buildings. As their world becarne more convenient, it also became dirtier-more greedy.

If anything, I was glad to have my castle atop Blackwell Hills, away from all of that. But as everything around me moved forward, I stayed frozen in place, tortured by an endless cycle of pain. A part of me ached to be amongst them. A part of me wanted to have another to hold, a son of my own, and less of a monstrosity of a dog for a pet.

L yearned to know a life where I wasn't in a constant state of agitation and pain because the fire within me could never be satisfied. Unfortunately, I knew that that wasn’t the reality I lived in.

They feared me and my powers.

They feared what I did-what I could do. Plus, with the Fire Wolf inside of me, there was no way I'd be able to live a life of simplicity.

The sound of the large wooden doors opening caught my attention as padded paws and labored huffs slowly made their way to me.

I knew immediately that it was Cerberus.

I turned around to greet my loyal guardian when I noticed a figure lying on his back. Cerberus knew that no one was allowed in the main palace unless I specifically requested their presence.

The flames of anger started to ignite. “Cerberus..”

My voice was calm, although the beast knew that my temper was far from it.

I could feel the fire in my eyes begin to burn. “You know better than to bring anyone into this building without my permission!” Cerberus kneeled and allowed the body to gently slide off his back. Afterward, his ears turned downward as he hastily ran out the door.

I'll give you credit—you're smart enough to know when leaving my presence is the best thing you can do for your life. Although, I couldn't think the same for whoever this poor soul was.

I suspected it was one of the maids, but it didn't matter.

There would be 98 of them left-more than enough to serve me as needed. Ugh, I need to make it more clear at what times they're allowed to enter my portion of the palace and when they’re not. allowed my Fire Wolf to take control as its burned my body while it shifted. As I was about to burn the body on the ground, I immediately stopped when I finally saw who it was. Wait...

Leaped over the girl's body and flung open my palace doors. “Cerberus!” A few seconds later, the beast came back with his head bowed down.

I shifted back into my human form. “What is the meaning of this? Why is she here?” Cerberus lifted his head and only whimpered. He slowly walked back towards the girl as one of his heads nuzzled her unconscious body.

I let out a sigh as I went and kneeled next to the girl.

I took her soft and long brown hair in between my fingers as the faint smell of vanilla wafted into my nose.

Interesting... As I observed her body, I noticed a burn mark on her right arm.

I immediately thought back to earlier in the day when I burned the werewolf girl who attempted to kill me.
