Chapter 112
David loved to gamble, but he loved life even more. Selina could see that having learned his lesson this time, he might not fully reform, but at least he’d be cautious of Selina’s decisiveness:
Otherwise, for a reckless gambler who didn’t even cherish his own life, Selina was out of options, unless she locked him in a alungeon for a day and night.
But that would be too extreme for normal people, likely leading to a mental breakdown and turning them into complete
wrecks
“What should I do?” Susie couldn’t help but cry, covering her face with her hands. Nora felt uneasy as well, so she crouched down along with the diner owner’s wife to comfort her.
Selina spoke indifferently, “Nora, please take Susie home. I’ll handle the rest here.”
“I’m so sorry. Selina, I had no idea Uncle David would cause such a scene. We were supposed to celebrate together today.”
Selina responded with a smile. “It’s okay, we’re family after all. Your problems are mine too.”
These words eased Nora’s mind quite a bit, and she quickly escorted an emotionally shattered Susie out
Herbert had been watching the entire scene with a spectator’s interest. Selina shrugged her shoulders, not bothering with him, only for Herbert to step in front of her.
Selina glanced at Herbert, “What do you want?”
“So, you must be Trevon’s wife who is mysterious? Herbert asked.
Truth be told, Herbert wasn’t surprised when he first heard of Selina’s background. With the Brady family’s push for Trevon to marry and his rebellious attitude, they all thought Trevon would pick some trophy wife just to shut everyone up and rebel against the family. But now, it seemed Selina was far from the decoration Herbert had imagined and she wielded the family’s power quite effectively.
“Yes, I am.”
“You did well earlier. But was the courage you showed when paying coming from Trevon? How does it feel to spend the Brady family’s money and put on their airs?”
Herbert’s words reeked of sarcasm. Although he had to admit Selina’s beauty was indeed stunning, the Brady family had dug up everything about her past when they learned that Trevon had married a stranger out of the blue.
With her high school education incomplete, a dark past of thievery and survival tactics, every label attached to Selina was one the Brady family would typically shun a mile away, let alone for someone like Trevon – the man in charge of the family. How could his woman be this lowly?
In Samuel’s eyes, aside from her looks, Selina was worthless and definitely not someone who could contribute to Trevon’s life, quite possibly even dragging him down.
Herbert had immense respect for Trevon and couldn’t allow a woman like Selina to be his wife. Now that he had the chance, he was intent on knocking her down a few pegs.
“Oh. I’m having quite the blast, spending my honey’s money, acting all high and mighty. Feels fantastic, doesn’t it? Annoyed?
Bite me.”
Selina retorted smoothly, leaving Herbert momentarily speechless.

and being ridiculed by him, would typically be too ashamed to respond and would flee.
But not Selina, who stood there, audacious and shameless.
Herbert thought. “What was Trevon thinking? Even if he was rebelling against the Brady family’s control, he shouldn’t be ruining his own life by marrying such an awful woman.
Selina couldn’t care less about Herbert’s opinion. She expected the Brady family to be much like the Hudson family, judging her based on superficial information and thinking she wasn’t worthy of Trevon. True excellence comes from inherent self- confidence.
Selina had no obligation to prove anything to them. If they wanted to her, she would stretch out her face and brace for a few slaps first. Selina didn’t mind the trouble and otherwise, a life spent merely flaunting the couple’s affection would be too dull.
Herbert clenched his teeth with visible frustration. “You casually ordered someone to chop off David’s hand, but do you think Susie won’t hate you once she calms down? Despite everything, she is Trevon’s stepmom. If you offend her, do you think your life in the world of the elite will be easy?”
“When Susie sees the changes in David, she won’t hate me. She’ll regret not having chopped off his hand sooner. And anyway, this is my business. It’s none of your concern.”
Then Selina left directly after saying that.
In Herbert’s eyes, Selina’s departure was nothing short of a cowardly flight. How could he let her off easily after being verbally lambasted by her shameless bravado? Herbert quickly followed and forcefully shut the door Selina was trying to
_open.
You’re asking for death, Selina said.
Selina’s icy gaze swept over Herbert, and at that moment, Herbert felt a chill run down his spine.
The next second, Selina unceremoniously kicked at Herbert’s right leg.
Herbert hadn’t expected Selina to physically strike him. Caught off guard, he staggered and half–crouched in pain. In the next instance, Herbert felt her firm grip yanking his hair.
“Get your hands off me,” Herbert said.
Feeling like his scalp might be torn off, Herbert heard Selina’s frosty command, “Apologize.”
Herbert thought he was hallucinating, hardly believing what he was hearing as he looked at Selina incredulously. “You’re shameless. You think just because Trevon chose you as his trophy wife, you can do this to me.”
Selina clicked her tongue lightly, cutting off Herbert before he could finish, and delivered a knee strike straight to his nose. Herbert felt dizzy, his vision blurring, and while no blood spurted from his nose, the pain was overwhelming.
