“And for this, we’ll be naming it Sapphire Muse,” Sylvie announced, watching out for the reactions of the people on the table. 

Majority of them bobbed their heads, seeming pleased. 

Her smile widened. “So, we’ll work on replicas of it in different colors and more sizes. I’m sure it’ll be a success.” 

“You’re sure?” Astrid scoffed. “You sound pretty confident, Sylvie 

Sylvie turned to her stepsister who had been scowling at her the entire time. “Well, I’m confident because like always, Astrid, my designs are top notch and tend to be appreciated.” 

Astrid’s irritation grew. “But this design is an imitation of Chic Mirage. You seem to be underestimating the company a lot.” 

“I did my research. Chic Mirage does not hold any originality rights over the design, so we’re free to imitate it. Besides, it’s unfair to compare such a masterpiece to Chic Mirage. What we have here-” she pointed at the projector displaying the image on the wall. “—is beyond amazing, Astrid, and completely different in terms of creativity from what Chic Mirage has.” Some of the board members nodded in agreement, but Astrid and June’s faces didn’t look any pleased. Of course, how could they be pleased when Sylvie was now leading board meetings–an activity their grandfather was no longer giving to them. 

“I’m really eager to give Sylvie’s design a try,” one of the board members–Trisha–said. “Business is all about competition. It’d be fun to present the public with something similar but better than Chic Mirage’s most popular design. I’m sure the rush would be crazy. Hell, even Chic Mirage would go crazy!” The woman laughed, few others chuckling along with her. “And that is what business is all about, people.” 

“You’re right. Tomorrow, it might be Chic Mirage’s turn to beat us at something. It’s simply business.” Someone else supported. 

Sylvie’s chest swelled with pride. She was so grateful that a lot of people were in support of her design. 

There was a major runway event coming up in a couple of weeks where different brands would get to display their best designs. She couldn’t wait to see the disappointment in Cindy’s face when her company presents Sapphire Muse which was similar but better than their best design. 

“I still think it’s a terrible idea, anyway,” Astrid said, rising to her feet. “Anyway, this meeting is over for me. So, I’ll be taking my leave.” 

“Ms. Astrid, that’s disrespectful!” A woman chided. “You’re not supposed to walk out on the rest of us, not when the meeting’s still on.” 

Astrid rolled her eyes with a tired sigh, then glared at the woman “Let’s just say I need to use the restroom. Does that help?” 

“It doesn’t. You’re not supposed to walk out on us,” Sylvie chipped in. 

Before Astrid could lash at her, June stood up as well. “She’s not the only one leaving, so Lthink you might want to chastise us both.” 

She grabbed her purse and left. Astrid followed with a cruel smile, ignoring the mumblings from the older ones behind. 

“I’m… I’m so sorry, for their behavior,” Sylvie said, feeling really ashamed. 

They went on with the meeting and in a few minutes, it came to an end. 

As they made their way out of the conference room, one of the women walked up to Sylvie and patted her on the shoulder, “You’re a good, hardworking woman, Sylvie. Don’t ever change that for any reason, and I’m glad you’re a Cheng.

Sylvie smiled brightly, dipping her head. “Thank you, ma’am.”

Ms. Tasmin who had also been in the meeting, waved at her before walking out. The woman had been trying to get on her good side for the past one month since Sylvie’s sudden rise to power in the company. It was ironic how the woman who was very rude to her was suddenly trying to please her. Power really did rule the world. 

Stepping out of the room herself, she received a call from Galen and gasped when she checked the time. 

Oh, of course! 

“Hi, Grandpa!” 

She was already making her way to her car. 

“Are you done with the meeting? I’m here already, Sylvie, and you know I told you I wouldn’t want them to get here before us.” Galen scolded, though his tone was very light. 

“Yes, yes. I remember, Gramps. I’m already on my way.” She made her way 

“Gramps? Really?” 

Sylvie laughed. “Sorry, Mr. Cheng. I’ll be there shortly.” 

He tsked. “Silly child. Just be quick.”

Sylvie smiled as she lowered the phone from her ear, slipping it into her bag. Few months ago, if someone had told her that she’d become so acquainted with Galen Cheng, she never would’ve believed it. She actually never thought the grumpy man was capable of such warmth. 

Well, what could she say? The past one month had been really good 

to her. 

It’d be one month since her forced engagement to Machai, and aside having to deal with the prick, everything else had been going pretty well for her. 

She had gotten more exposure in the company, mainly because clients were more in love with her designs and always wanted to work with her. 

She’d made the Queen’s dress, flew over to design her herself, and it was all a success. As expected, making the Queen’s dress gave them more exposure in Astradelle. The exposure was even more than they’d anticipated. 

Galen was beyond pleased, he treated Syovje to dinner one evening. He became more free with her, bringing her along to social functions. Eventually, a week ago, he promoted her in the company again. 

Apparently, June and Astrid weren’t cool with the decision, and their hatred for her seemed to had gotten bigger.
