Chapter 157
For long, Sylvie stayed there in the room trying to get over the trauma in her head.
When her sobs subsided and she was back to reality, she stood and went into the bathroom to clean her face.

Washing her hands, her eyes fell on the mirror in front of her. Giving herself a long stare, a frustrated tear came rolling down.

Once again, she was back to being somebody’s tool. How long was this going to last? What was she going to lose at the end of this?
Dabbing her face and drying her hands, she left the room. Hopefully, the monster would let her go home and wouldn’t try to force her to remain there with her eyes were looking like that
Stepping out of the room, she nearly jumped out of her skin when she found someone outside, standing with one hand tucked into his pocket like he’d been deliberately waiting.
It was Kage.
She didn’t want to jump out of her skin anymore but wanted to run far away.
She stayed rooted to the spot, her legs unable to move.
Kage swept his gaze over her, his eyes seeming dark and displeased.
Sylvie’s heart started the unhealthy race, and suddenly, she was tempted to cry before him.
He’d warned her to steer clear from Machai. This was what he meant. Of course he’d know which of his friends was a psychopath.
But that was the point. She hadn’t even gone close to this guy in the first place. Yet, he found a way to trap her.
Lowering her gaze, her feet finally found some strength and started walking, going away from him.
“How’re you doing, Sylvie?” His deep honeyed voice stopped her in her tracks.
Oh, she was tempted to start crying again. But would he comfort her? Just like old times?
Or maybe he’d laugh at her.
She couldn’t bring herself to look at him as she answered: “I’m fine.”
It sounded so much like a lie, she wondered if he could also tell,
She walked away.
Machai allowed her to leave, majorly because he didn’t want people asking questions concerning her mood.
The party was about coming to an end when Kage showed up, meeting him at the balcony.
“I need a moment with you. He demanded, his voice clipped.
For some reason, Machai smiled. “You have all my time, man. What do you want to talk about?” He sipped from his glass of
wine.

Chapter 157
There were two guests around them.
“Alone,” Kage added, gritting the word.
Another smile from Machai, like he had been expecting and enjoying the show.
He followed Kage out of the house and around to the pool area which was bereft of people.

“This had better been good, man-” before the words were fully out of his mouth, Kage grabbed his jacket, pulled him around, punching him hard in the face.
The glass in Machai’s hand shattered to the floor. “What the f-”
Kage punched him again, harder this time.
He stumbled back and almost dropped to the floor. Good thing his stamina was quite strong.
“Hey! What is your problem?” He yelled at Kage.
“My problem?” Kage asked as he casually rolled up his sleeves. “I think you pretty much know what it is.”
He moved to deliver another punch to him, but Machai pushed him back and delivered a punch instead. Groaning, Kage attacked him again. This time, he was able to hit Machai thrice before they separated.
“What game do you think you’re playing with Sylvie?” Kage asked with harsh breaths.
“Game? You tell me, Kage; when you were married to her and even got her pregnant, was it all a game?”
Kage was silent, but so much rage bubbled through him, he suddenly wished he had a knife with him.
“You’re through with her, bro. Why don’t you focus ahead and stop trying to act controlling?” Machai added, and this time, Kage stepped toward him.
“You’re an asshole, and I’m warning you, Machai, stay away from her.”
“Why? Do you have plans of going back to fuck her again?”
Kage punched him again. This time Machai laughed. “Does it hurt so much, bro? That you’re finally seeing the value of what you lost? Does it trouble you that someone else gets to take care of her?”
A furrow creased Kage’s brows. “I wouldn’t be here if you were taking care of her. How dare you touch her in a house full of people?”
Machai causally shrugged, straightening his suit. “She was being disobedient, all I did was put her in place. We all have our ways of handling our women, don’t we, Kage?”
Kage’s eyes burned brighter. “I’m warning you, Machai.”
“What? Have you considered the fact that she really wants me? Why do you think she hasn’t left if she thinks I’m wrong for her? You don’t need to control people’s life, Kage. Not like that.”
He turned around and started walking away. As if remembering something, he paused to look back at him.
“And this better be the last time you hit me, Mr. Hawkins. I won’t respond lightly next time.”
He turned and left, leaving Kage with over a hundred thoughts on how to murder a man.
