Chapter 989 Losing Her Patience
After the waiter left the room, they were left on their own again.
Elisa's patience was utterly depleted at this point.
Looking at how Rose and her family wanted to continue the topic, she ignored them and started eating.
Vincent looked at her briefly before following suit. How does she have the appetite to eat? Sure, I'll eat something too.
Rachel and Charli did the same. Let's dig in. We're here for the food, after all!
Norman's face darkened. He had never indicated to them that it was okay to start eating, yet they acted on their own accord without minding their manners.
I can't believe they are going ahead and enjoying the food. Where are their manners?
He took a deep breath in an attempt to control his emotions.
Raising his wine glass, he proposed a toast.
"Since we are all here, let's have a toast," he announced with a friendly smile as though it was another business meeting.
However, Rose was the only one who held her glass up.
The rest of them were not inclined to respond to him; they continued eating.
In that instant, Norman's temper flared up.
Rose kicked him under the table as a warning when he was on the brink of an outburst.
Despite their best efforts, it was challenging to endure such rudeness.
Linda was the first to lose her temper.
Her eyebrows were furrowed together as she glowered at Elisa coldly. "Elisa, you're not showing any respect at all – what do you want?"
Rachel snorted out laughing as soon as she heard that.
"Hey, do you guys have any hint of humility? Do you know what is going on right now? I believe it's an emergency for you – you might go to jail anytime! What are you doing here, complaining about Elisa being rude? Shouldn't you soften your tone when you ask for help? At the very least, you should kneel before her to beg for forgiveness!"
She deliberately emphasized the word 'kneel.'
Norman and his family looked even more offended when they heard that.
Rachel's words reminded everyone Norman had a favor to ask of Elisa. Yet, they were acting all high and lofty.
Rachel should put herself in our shoes. Elise forced us to this extent. Since she doesn't show us any respect, why should we lower our pride to plead for her help? They thought.
At last, Elisa demanded icily, "This is my last time asking – will you tell me? Right now, right here."
In the last sentence, she indicated that this might be their last chance to speak to her.
Rose quickly nudged Norman under the table while beaming at Elisa widely.
"Of course, we will. It is the reason we are here today. Don't be anxious – we've just started eating."
Upon hearing that, Elisa didn't utter a word. Her friends continued enjoying the food, but Norman and the rest of his family looked anxious.
He returned to his senses and heaved a helpless sigh with sorrow in his eyes.
"Back when your father was still alive…"
During the pause in his sentence, Elisa tightened her fist around her spoon.
Then, Norman continued in a wistful yet morose tone, "We were quite close. Your father always took care of me. Knowing I was in a tough situation, he invited me to stay at your place. He even transferred some shares to me and brought me into Benett Corporation."
