The hospital lobby was buzzing with the usual activity. It was there that I bumped into Sinclair, who was carrying a bag filled with ointments.
"...Where's Fanny?" I asked, trying to sound casual.
I didn’t really know what to call him. Calling him Mr. Anderson felt too formal, and calling him "Uncle" seemed odd since he wasn’t much older than Fanny and me.
"She's upstairs getting checked out," Sinclair replied, glancing at his watch. "She should be done soon."
"I'm going up to see her," I said, heading towards the elevator.
"Wait a minute," Sinclair stopped me and handed me the bag. "Her wrist and ankle are bruised and scraped. She'll need to use the ointment."
I took the bag from him. "Aren't you coming up?"
"...No, I'll wait in the car. Once my sister and her husband are finished, can you help them down?" Sinclair's request confused me, but given our lack of familiarity, I didn’t press further.
Still, curiosity got the better of me. "How did you find Fanny?"
"When you really want to find someone, you do," Sinclair replied matter-of-factly.
It was a straightforward answer, but it didn't sit right. Yates and I had tried hard to find her too, but with no luck.
"Seems like Mr. Anderson cares quite a bit about Fanny," I teased.
Sinclair's face remained impassive as he nodded slightly and walked away. His tall, broad-shouldered figure moved with purpose, and I had to admit, the man was undeniably handsome.
Upstairs, I found Fanny with Yates. At that moment, I realized Sinclair likely stayed away because Yates was already there.
"Felicia, give me a hug," Fanny called out, playfully.
I stepped forward and hugged her. "After a storm comes a calm," I joked, trying to lighten the mood.
We shared a moment of silliness, which helped ease the tension from her recent ordeal.
