Fanny didn't pick up the call, and a few seconds later, she hung up.
I hadn't expected her decisiveness and firmness; she was definitely resolute about this.
In this regard, she's stronger than me, not one to drag things out.
To be fair, I wasn't exactly dragging my feet either. When Conrad and I broke up, that was it. We occasionally touched base, but that was more out of obligation than anything else.
Seeing Fanny and Yates reach this point felt a bit unfortunate, but I didn't voice it. Relationships are personal; only those involved truly understand the intricacies.
As we sipped our lattes and waited for the clerk to wrap up the painting, Fanny's phone lit up again with an incoming message.
It was from Yates: "Fanny, I'm leaving."
I glanced at Fanny, and without missing a beat, she said, "I'll block him in a bit."
"If you can't bring yourself to do it, I'll help," I teased.
Fanny shot me a look only a best friend would understand. She didn't reply to Yates, not even when the clerk handed us the wrapped painting and we left the store.
On the way back, Fanny fiddled with her phone. Her fingers hovered over Yates' contact, scrolling through their chat history. Suddenly, she let out a chuckle.
"What's so funny?" I asked, puzzled.
Fanny handed me her phone. "Look at our chat history. From start to finish, it's only a few dozen messages, not even as many as our office group chat in a week."
I didn't bother looking, just handed the phone back. "You've decided to break up, so why dwell on it?"
"Felicia, I'm beginning to wonder if I was ever really in a relationship," Fanny said, deleting Yates' contact from her phone.
