Chapter 527 I Think You Have Gone Mad
Zachary tilted his head, his gaze lowered. The fringes hanging over his forehead concealed the expression in his eyes.
Before he could even speak, Tamara, in a fit of madness, glared furiously at Zachary. Her eyes were filled with hatred, as though she was looking at her sworn enemy. She roared, “You ingrate! I should have strangled you to death when I had the chance. Then I wouldn't have to spend half my life in lonely misery in a foreign land!”
No one knew that a few days ago, upon learning of Bertram's business trip to Fairlake, she had immediately packed her bags and rushed over. She wore the dress they had promised each other in, her makeup a tad too mature for her age, all in the hopes of a chance encounter with Bertram. She fantasized about his mesmerizing gaze that had captivated her back in the day.
However, by the time she found out about Bertram's whereabouts and rushed to the restaurant, she saw him sitting across from Jasmine. He was serving the latter a piece of steak, an undeniable display of affection.
The smile on Tamara's face cracked in that instant.
And so, over the past few days, she had kept her distance, trailing Bertram discreetly. She watched him stroll through the streets with Jasmine and lavish the latter with luxury.
The sight felt as if she was stabbed in her already broken heart. Yet, she couldn't help herself. Like a desperate voyeur, she couldn't resist watching them display their affection for each other at a distance. She fantasized about being the one by Bertram's side.
The more reality disappointed her, the more resentment she harbored toward Jasmine.
All she felt was regret, as back then it was Jasmine's sheer luck that saved her from a catastrophe.
I should have never held back, and it would have been better if she had just finished Jasmine off!
Her emotions surged to their peak when she saw the six of them sitting together, dining. These feelings gradually overwhelmed her, causing her to lose her composure.
Zachary looked at her, sniggering in disbelief. “I really think you've lost your mind.”
He didn't want to say anything more to her, so he turned around and started to walk away.
Upon seeing this, Tamara was taken aback and cried out, “Stop! I told you to stop! Do you even see me as your mother anymore?”
However, all she got in response was the gradually receding silhouette of Zachary.
“Ah!”
Fuming with rage, Tamara was on the verge of exploding. With no outlet for her anger, she took it out on a nearby car, punching and kicking it relentlessly.
The dispute between the two and her erratic behavior drew some sidelong glances from passersby.
“What are you looking at?” Tamara scowled, shooing the onlookers away in Uprian. She then opened the car door and sat inside.
Emerging from the bathroom in her pajamas, Lenora noticed Zachary sitting motionless on the couch, his posture as still and serene as a meditating priest. His head was lowered, lost in thought.
She expressed her surprise, “You're back so soon?”
“Mmm-hmm.”
Lenora felt something was off. “Where did you go just now?”
His return was so quick that it was unlikely he went to deal with work.
“What happened to your face?”
Before Zachary had a chance to respond, Lenora noticed what seemed to be a handprint on his face. She walked over for a closer look.
Yes, I'm not mistaken. Did someone hit him?
“I went to see Tamara,” Zachary replied softly.
Lenora had guessed it was her. Apart from her, no one else could have compelled Zachary to endure such a slap.
“Was it her who called you while we were having dinner earlier?”
“Mmm-hmm.”
“Did she see us dining together?” Lenora speculated.
He returned quickly, so I guess Tamara must have been downstairs in the hotel.
“Yes.”
Lenora had already guessed why Tamara was seeking Zachary. Most likely, it was yet another attempt to force Zachary to leave her.
She didn't pry any further. Getting up, she located the first aid kit and took out some anti-swelling ointment and a cotton swab. She then sat next to Zachary. “Tilt your head a little. I'm going to apply some medicine.”
