“Don’t worry.” Heidi said with a condescending smirk, “if you’ll just forgive me, and plead my case to lan, my dad will hand over all the Campbell family’s legal business to you. How’s that sound?” 

Heidi claimed it was an apology, but her expression was one of superiority. 

Clara chuckled lightly, her laugh devoid of warmth. “I don’t need your apology, nor do I want anything to do with the Campbell family’s business. Whatever lan’s got going on with you is his business, not mine. Don’t come to me. You’re not welcome here. Please, just leave.” 

After speaking, Clara turned around to leave, but behind her came Heidi’s mocking laughter. 

“Attorney Clara,” Heidi sneered, “I know your father broke away from the Bell family and most of his assets got scooped up by your Grandma. He’s in dire need of partners now. If you plead with lan on my behalf, I can have my dad help your father rise from the ashes.” 

Heidi’s gaze was fixed on Clara with disdain. She was sure Clara would cave for the sake of her father. 

But Clara slowly turned around, her gaze icy as she met Heidi’s eyes. “I don’t even care for the trinkets lan’s thrown my way. What makes you think I’d want anything from the Campbells?” 

Heidi was left speechless, not anticipating Clara’s resilience. Her fist clenched in frustration, “What are you so smug about, Clara? Do you really think lan loves. you? That he’d disregard our families‘ ties for you? Even if 1 ruin you, what then? He’d still have me brought back when I feigned illness and threatened suicide.” 

“Not only were we engaged, but he also owes me his life. No matter what happens, he would never abandon me. You, on the other hand, you’re nothing. more than a pet he once toyed with. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten what he said when he handed you that breakup cheque? He told you to take the money and vanish from his life forever. How can you be so shameless, always trying to lure him back with various excuses. You are exactly like your disgraceful mother.” 

The words lan spat at Heidi that day were as devastating as her hatred towards Clara.
