“Do you think she’ll accept me? Will she call me brother?”
Ian raised an eyebrow at him. “That depends on how you behave. She’s my wife, and she listens to me.”
It was clear as day what he meant. Getting Clara to acknowledge him meant getting past Ian first.
Edwin wasn’t thrilled internally, but he put on an eager face. Leaning close, he whispered in Ian’s ear, “Alright, name your price. I’ll meet it, my dear brother-in-law!”
He bit down hard on the words “brother-in-law,” with a smug smile playing on his lips.
Just then, Edwin’s phone began to ring. Elle’s urgent voice came through, “Ggrandma’s fever’s spiked again. She keeps calling for Clara. Can you bring her over?”
Ever since Clara had disappeared, Marian had fallen ill. The fever wouldn’t break. She was in a semi-conscious state, but the one clear thing was she remembered Clara was her granddaughter.
The doctors called it a psychological fixation, and she needed to resolve her inner turmoil to fully recover. But to do that, Clara needed to be there.
However, Clara still couldn’t accept her new identity. Her health was fragile, and she was pregnant.
Considering all this, Edwin looked at Ian with a troubled expression. “What do we do? If grandma keeps this up, she might not last much longer.”
Ian glanced towards the hospital room and hesitated before saying, “You go back first. I’ll talk to Casey about it.”
