Hearing those words, Katherine immediately took the hairpin from her hair. Staring incredulously at the tiny camera hidden beneath the pearl, she exclaimed, “How is this possible? I just bought this from the mall yesterday. How could someone have tampered with it?”
The thought of Clara finding out about this made her tears fall in self-reproach. Teo immediately reassured her, “I’m not blaming you, Katherine. Please think about it. Has anyone else touched this hairpin besides you?”
Katherine shook her head. “No, after I bought it yesterday, I just put it in my bag. I was alone at home last night. Brodie didn’t come back. I have no idea when this camera was placed.”
The more she spoke, the more aggrieved she felt. If she didn’t wear this hairpin to the hearing, Clara would not have learned about this.
Shaking her head in guilt, she implored, “Teo, you have to believe me. I didn’t place the camera there. I really don’t know what happened.”
Teo immediately pulled her into his arms, comforting her in a low voice, “No one is suspecting you. It’s just that our opponent is ruthless, targeting you like this. I think their goal is not only to drive a wedge between Clara and Ian but also between us. Who do you think would be the most unhappy about us being together?”
Hearing his question, Katherine blurted out without thinking, “Leonora. She wouldn’t want to see us together the most. But she’s in prison. How could she arrange all this?”
Teo frowned. “Maybe someone else doesn’t want to see us together even more than she does. I’ll look into this. Let me take you home first. Don’t overthink it. Now that this has happened, we need to face it together.”
He drove Katherine home.
