After years of keeping quiet and missing out on so much, Jason had grown wary of his own silence. Now, no matter what happened between him and Estrella, he promised himself he’d never truly get angry or lose his temper. Instead, he’d always give her a chance to speak up.
It took going through a lot for Jason to realize just how important it was to listen to others. He communicated cautiously, and with a smile, Estrella simply said, “Okay.”
Then, wrapping her arms around his neck, she kissed him. Estrella initiated the kiss, and with a swift move, Jason had her in his embrace, deepening it.
Even though they had cleared the air, Jason still felt something was off about the Ledford family. Estrella felt the same.

The next day at noon.
Erik had just made lunch plans with Estrella when Tori’s secretary approached, saying, “Miss, the chairman wants to see you.”
Erik, hands in her coat pockets and expressionless, stared at the secretary for a long moment before deciding to meet Tori.
Soon, the secretary opened the door to the chairman’s office, and Erik walked in as if nothing was amiss.
Behind the desk, Tori was taken aback by Erik’s appearance—her hair grown out, dressed in women’s clothing. For a moment, he saw a glimpse of Erik’s late mother in her.
Caught by surprise, Erik strolled over and casually sat down across from him, asking, “You wanted to see me?”
As a child, Erik was quite attached to Tori, considering him one of her few relatives. But as he was always busy with work and let Damita bully her, Erik’s fondness for him waned. Eventually, when he showed interest in her shares, she lost all paternal affection for him.
Tori snapped back to reality at Erik’s familiar voice, his expression darkening as he said, “Jesse, you’re getting out of line, bringing strangers home for the holidays and even laying a hand on your Aunt Willow.”
Erik, unfazed, retorted, “Tori, Damita and Melinda are the strangers, not Bryce.”
Not wanting to prolong the conversation, Erik directly asked, “What do you want? If there's nothing else, I'm leaving.”
Annoyed, Tori furrowed his brows, “I’ve heard rumors about you and Bryce planning to marry. Is it true?”
The gossip had spread through their circles, with the Nelson family busy preparing for the wedding, and Tori, Erik’s father, was the last to know.
Getting straight to the point, Erik began, “Yes, Bryce and I are—”
After years of resentment, how could Erik let go?
As for Tori’s claim of paternal duty, she countered, “Have you ever acted like a father? Do you even know why I suddenly cut my hair? You’re clueless. You’ve only ever cared about my shares, never about me. How dare you call yourself my father.”
After laying it all on the table, Erik stood up from the chair, locking eyes with Tori and said, “Tori, let me make this crystal clear – I’m absolutely going to marry Bryce, and you can forget about getting your hands on my shares, not now, not ever.”
Without waiting for a response, Erik turned on her heel and strode out of the office.
This visit was all about blowing off steam. Those words had been simmering inside her for too long, and she was itching to get them out.
Watching Erik’s retreating figure, Tori grabbed a pen holder from the desk and hurled it across the room, seething, “Ungrateful child, I should have nipped this in the bud when you were born.”
Tori had always seen her as a bit of an odd duck, especially since she was a girl, and never really took her seriously. But he hadn’t expected her to pull such a bold move, completely disregarding his plans for her marriage.
In his office, amidst the chaos of his anger, Tori was fuming and throwing things around. Erik, on the other hand, could only let out a cold, amused chuckle, utterly unfazed by the drama, even finding a bit of thrill in the defiance.
