30 Days Till I Divorce My Husband novel Chapter 386

Estrella took a sip of water, turning to look at him.

Jason caught her eye and managed a small smile before settling back into a calm demeanor. "It's been thirty years," he said softly. "At this point, who can really say what was right or wrong?"

His calmness tugged at Estrella's heart as she gazed at him.

He must have thought long and hard and made many compromises to come back.

Locking eyes with him, Jason said, "I came back to see you, Isaac, and mom."

Estrella's gaze drifted to the twinkling lights of the town below and the stars scattered across the night sky, her eyes reflecting the celestial glow.

The mountaintop night was serene, filled only with the rustling of the breeze.

In that moment, it felt like the universe had shrunk to just her and Jason.

Jason continued to watch her, admiring her profile. "Kristin always said you were a lucky charm," he remarked, noticing her moist lips as she drank, swallowing hard himself before taking a sip of water. He gently added, "Dad agreed to let me take you with me. I bet your dad would agree too."

Estrella turned back, her eyes swiftly losing their starry sheen to display a hint of disdain. "Jason, don't be so sure. Have you asked your mom or mine if they're okay with it?"

She knew their fathers felt guilty over past grievances; they'd hardly refuse Jason's request to take her and Isaac away, even if they harbored a thousand objections.

"Even if they wanted our lives, they wouldn't say no," she pointed out.

Before Jason could respond, Estrella pressed, "And have you even considered what I want?"

Jason remained silent, caught off guard by her questions.

He was merely testing the waters.

After a brief pause, he teased, "If you won't come with me, can I at least take Isaac? I won't be marrying anyone else or be with another woman."

The suggestion made Estrella burst into laughter.

Resting her hand on the car's hood, she looked at him amusedly. "Jason, do you hear yourself? Giving Isaac to you, how could you even ask that?"

"You didn't even ask if Isaac wants to go with you."

As Jason hesitated, Estrella continued, slightly annoyed, "If you want kids, have your own."

Isaac was her miracle, and she wouldn't hand him over to anyone, even his father.

Estrella's irritation was palpable, but Jason countered, "That child isn't yours alone; he's ours."

He hoped that taking Isaac might compel Estrella to follow.

Meanwhile, at the Nelson family home.

Landon entered the bedroom to find Kristin applying her nightly skincare routine.

Acknowledging his presence with a glance, Kristin continued her regimen, her reflection focused in the mirror.

Landon, visibly troubled, took a seat at the desk, facing Kristin. "We need to talk," he said, feeling overwhelmed.

Kristin, applying her lotion, responded without looking up, "Go ahead."

Two years ago, when the bombshell dropped that Jason wasn't her biological son, Kristin's relationship with Landon grew distant, but her bond with Jason remained unbroken.

After all, she had raised him for thirty years.

Landon let out a long sigh, his right arm resting on the desk, as he looked at Kristin with a sense of defeat. "I went to see Jason today," he said.

At the vanity, Kristin froze for a moment before turning to face him. "Jason's a reasonable man; he wouldn't want to put you and Cole in a tough spot. He appreciates all we've done for him," she said.

Hearing this only made Landon's heart ache more. "If only Jason would blame us, even just a little, or express some disappointment towards me and Cole, I might feel better. But his silence, it just makes everything harder," he said.

"The thought of him, these past two years, having to fend for himself without anyone's support... Ah!" Landon trailed off, too overwhelmed to continue.
