With her eyes closed, Jesse took a hearty sip of the iced tea beside her and sighed, "Estrella, this is the life. This is what enjoyment feels like."
Estrella glanced over at her, noting the sheer contentment on Jesse's face, and casually remarked, "If Bryce finds out, he'll probably tear this spa apart."
The minute Estrella said that, a pang of guilt hit Jesse, and the iced tea suddenly lost its flavor.
"Estrella," Jesse warned, "this stays between us, okay? Our little secret."
Just as she finished, Jesse's phone buzzed on the table. They exchanged looks, and Jesse's heart skipped a beat as she picked it up.
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
Setting down her drink, Jesse straightened up and answered the call, trying to seem casual.
Before she could even say hello, Bryce's voice came through, "Jesse, where are you?"
Keeping her cool, Jesse replied, "Just hanging out with Estrella. We'll be back later."
Without waiting for a response, she pulled the phone away and said, "Bryce, reception's bad here. Gotta hang up now!"
And with that, she ended the call before he could say another word.
After being cooped up at home for so long, she was determined to enjoy her freedom today.
Estrella, impressed by Jesse's quick thinking, gave her a thumbs-up. "You're good."
The handsome attendants in the spa couldn't help but admire the modern woman's prowess.
Back in his office, Bryce furrowed his brows, sensing something was off.
Clutching his phone, he was about to call back when his assistant cautiously entered, "Mr. Jason, we've tracked down Ms. Estrella. She's at the Lanting Spa, getting a foot massage."
The assistant's voice grew almost inaudible as he mentioned the foot massage.
Bryce's face darkened.
Later, Jason and Bryce headed out to catch them in the act, their expressions a mix of frustration and disapproval, barely holding back from causing a scene at the spa.
On the drive back, Jesse noticed Bryce's silent treatment. He wouldn't look at her, let alone speak.
She broke the silence, "I was just feeling claustrophobic at home, needed to unwind."
"And remember, it was you who introduced Estrella and me to the massage parlor, saying how beneficial it was for our health. Why the big fuss now?"
A few pointed remarks left Bryce speechless.
After a moment, he protested, "But that was when we all went together. Now you two sneak off without me, what's going on?"
Feeling justified, Jesse soothed him, "Alright, alright, we'll bring you along next time."
"Next time?" Bryce echoed, dismayed by the thought of repeating this scenario.
Feeling the irony of his earlier stance, Bryce couldn't help but relent.
Bryce, embarrassed by her words, chuckled, "I'm just concerned about you, that's all."
Jesse teased, "Cut it out, Bryce. You're just clingy."
At the start of their marriage, Jesse thought Bryce's clinginess was due to his lack of romantic experience.
Yet, with their son Bryan now two years old and a second child on the way, Bryce had become even more attached, unable to spend a day apart.
Sometimes, Jesse mused, her life seemed to revolve entirely around Bryce.
Glancing at him, she noticed one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding hers, a smile crept onto her face.
Yet, this feeling of being cherished and cared for wasn't so bad after all.
Bryce had filled her life with love, something she had always longed for.
Feeling a surge of contentment, Jesse gently touched her still-flat belly, considering the day's escapades merely a spice in the life she shared with Bryce.
She would always hold dear the kindness Bryce showed her, never doing anything that might upset him or make him feel embarrassed.
Lately, Jesse's hair had grown even longer than it was two years ago, jet-black and silky smooth. She had grown quite fond of it.
Outside, the breeze was gentle in Paloma, and the night view of Ravenwood was as bustling and vibrant as ever.
In that moment, Bryce suddenly turned to look at Jesse and asked, "By the way, Jesse, what do you think we should name our second child?"
