Chapter 898
Third Person’s POV
“That’s enough.” Pandora raised her hand to stop him. “Safe travels.”
How could she not understand the emotions written all over Germain’s face?
“Mom… I’m sorry.” Germain lowered his head and spoke solemnly.
“You must remain in the Palace. Only then will the King stop suspecting me. If I am accus a crime I never committed, it will put every member of the Blue Abyss Pack in danger.”
Pandora nodded and said nothing more. “I understand. Go.”
Germain bowed and took his leave. Then he asked Sadi, Maya, and the four children to co in and say goodbye to Pandora one by one.
When she saw the adorable wolf pups, Pandora did not show much happiness or affection. remained as calm and distant as ever.
Only after everyone had left did she let out a few quiet coughs.
The maid standing beside her lowered her voice and tried to comfort her.
“The summer heat is unbearable. Alpha Germain only made this arrangement because he w worried about you. Please don’t blame him.”
Pandora let out a deep sigh.
A dry, withered scent spread from her body, like wood that had been drained of all its moisture.
“You watched him grow up. Do you really not know what kind of person he is? If he truly care about me as his mother, he could have left two months earlier and taken me with him. He planned all of this from the beginning. I have to stay in this Palace and become the King’s hostage, so he can continue pretending to be a loyal Alpha in front of him.”
Pandora sighed again.
“I know his ambitions and ideals. But he wants to overthrow the monarchy while also gaining everyone’s trust. He refuses to bear the name of a traitor. With that kind of personality, he was never destined to succeed.”
The maid quickly shushed her. “Please, don’t say things like that so openly.”
Pandora waved her hand, a bitter smile on her face.
“At this point, do you really think his secret thoughts are still secrets to the King, or to any in this Palace? After Madison was imprisoned, I learned the truth behind everything. If o the Moon Goddess had taken my life during that illness last year…”
She continued, “It would have been better. I have lived long enough. Staying in this Palace consuming so many precious herbs is nothing but a waste of resources and money. The r medicines Germain sends me are not because he truly cares about me as his mother. He c wants to appear like a devoted son in front of the King.”
Pandora’s cloudy eyes shifted slightly as she stared blankly out the window.
The maid dropped to her knees, instinctively lowering her head and exposing her neck in submission.
“Please, don’t think about it anymore. It will only hurt you. Ever since Madison was capture you’ve been crying almost every day.”
Hearing that, Pandora could no longer hold back. She covered her face with both hands, a suppressed, nearly inaudible sob escaping her throat.
