That morning Jared, Luther, Lord Jadeinfinity, Cyril, and the other alliance leaders gathered before the entrance to the Skyreach Path.
The mountain towered ten thousand yards into the sky. Somewhere along its height, an unknown power had sliced straight across, leaving a ledge as smooth and glossy as a giant mirror. Thin clouds drifted around the severed peak, unable to hide the violent precision of that ancient cut.
Etched across the glass-flat face sprawled a teleportation circle a hundred yards wide. Interlocking strokes and angles folded over one another, each line breathing out a faint spatial ripple that pricked at the skin and warned of bottomless distance hidden inside the pattern.
"This is the Skyreach Path."
Lord Jadeinfinity spoke in a low voice. "Legend says an ancient celestial built this array to bridge two realms. It is unbelievably firm. For thousands of years, countless cultivators tried to break it and every attempt failed."
Jared stared at the array; gray light churned behind his pupils and turned the reflection on his eyes dull and stormy.
Through the Eye of Chaos, every layer of the circle unfolded for him.
Countless golden runes, chain after chain, lashed the entire peak to the underground ley lines, weaving the mountain and the grand array into a single living fortress.
If even one of those rune chains survived, the formation would heal itself. To destroy it, every last connection had to be severed at the very same breath.
"It is definitely troublesome," someone muttered.
Jared nodded once. "But … it is not impossible." Resolve tempered the quiet statement.
He swept his gaze over the gathered leaders. "When I strike, hit the array's seventy-two nodes with everything you have. We must stop its self-repair."
"Understood!" voices answered in chorus, the reply echoing off cold stone.
He drew a long breath, shot upward, and hovered directly above the glowing lines, robe tails snapping in the rising wind.
Finger seals blurred. Inside his core the chaotic force and Golden Dragon Bloodline surged together, both powers roused at the same instant.
This time he refused to let them collide. Instead, he coaxed each strand toward the other, forcing contact where instinct screamed for separation.
A month of study had given him the first hint of how the puzzle pieces might lock without shattering.
The Dragon Bloodline burned with pure yang strength; the chaotic force embraced and dissolved all things. If a wisp of nether aura could stand between them, perhaps coexistence was truly possible.
The Nether Codex offered just such a bridge, and he now shaped a thread of nether intent to mimic the real thing.
"Light and darkness unite—chaos returns to origin!" he called, voice vibrating through bone.
His aura flipped. The air around him thinned, as though entire seasons switched places in a heartbeat.
The left half of his body burst into golden brilliance, a miniature sun rolling across polished scales.
Gray mist coiled over his right side, primitive and formless, like the first breath drawn by creation itself.
Between sternum and navel, a faint black current flowed, sewing gold and gray together in silent motion.
Gold, gray, and black light curled into his palms and lengthened, hardening into the outline of a sword.
The blade reached three feet. Gold ruled the left edge, gray shaded the right, and a single black line ran perfectly down the center from guard to tip.
The instant the sword solidified, clouds folded inward and the giant mountain trembled underfoot, as if sky and earth held their breath.
Lord Jadeinfinity and the others stared, speech frozen at their lips.
They had never felt power so strange yet so oppressive. The sword's pressure already matched a High Immortal Realm Level Nine strike.
