When Joseph arrived home and learned that Cora hadn’t returned, he didn’t comment on it. Instead, he went straight to the study and continued working on his doctoral thesis.

Over the next few days, Joseph headed to the sanatorium to treat Ethan, staying there for most of the day before returning home at night.

After the first phase of the acupuncture and medication treatment was completed, Ethan’s condition showed obvious improvement. His test results reflected major progress as well.

Joseph couldn’t cure acute leukemia, but he could strengthen Ethan’s body and improve the latter’s overall physical condition. Joseph could give Ethan a much better chance to fight the illness.

Once the treatment ended, Ethan paid Joseph a substantial consultation fee before returning to Croma.

That weekend, Joseph went fishing by the river to clear his mind. Several days had passed without seeing Cora, and he had no desire to see her either. Through Ella, he learned that she had been staying at her parents’ house the entire time. Even so, he refused to go there. He didn’t even visit Kimberly.

They were all in it together! That was the conclusion Joseph had reached about Cora and her parents. Still, he gave Bernard a call that afternoon to ask about the investigation into Sharon and Marla. Not only did Bernard refuse to share any updates, but he also cursed Joseph out before ending the call.

After the call ended, Joseph frowned. Did he really have to drag this family scandal into the open and expose it to the general public? He still cared about his reputation.

A new week began, and Joseph received a call from Mavis. She wanted him to return to work at Jenton University Hospital. She also planned to introduce several of her friends to him as patients. 1

Joseph weighed the pros and cons before deciding to accept the offer. Then, he received another call. The caller introduced himself as Dave Henderson.

Within a few minutes of conversation, Joseph learned that Dave had been appointed as the director of the ICU department. Meanwhile, Joseph would serve as the deputy director while taking full responsibility for medical administration. They would be working together.

It turned out that Travis had already been transferred to Jenton General Hospital as its associate director.

Dave and Joseph agreed to discuss more when they met up. Joseph looked into Dave’s background and realized that Dave was surprisingly young. Dave was five years younger than Joseph and was originally from Croma.
