A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 144

Chapter 144

Cora was actually quite happy with Joseph’s answer. After all, she knew exactly how limited his social circle was. Along with the fact that Fiona had people quietly keeping tabs on him from time to time, Joseph was just not capable of doing much.

Cora said, “Joseph, you’re brilliant one moment, and an utter fool the next. I really don’t know what to do with you. Seriously.”

Cora pointed at Joseph, wanting to call him an idiot outright. Being followed and secretly photographed wasn’t something Joseph had arranged, but she was convinced that it had happened because of him.

After Natalie had caused a scene at Meridian Group, plenty of people had learned that there were problems with their marriage. Whenever powerful families showed cracks, there would always be people eager to take advantage of the situation. They hoped to bring her and the Lowells down.

Joseph asked, “So I was wrong? I guess you’re right. How could I believe in those photos? I was probably just used and manipulated.”

Cora stared at Joseph, trying to see if he was lying. “If you knew these things were fake, why did you bring them to my mother?”

Joseph shrugged. “She didn’t respect me at all, so I got angry and showed her the photos. That’s all. Can

you untie me now?”

Cora pushed further. “What about Yvonne? What did you do to her?”

Joseph’s expression turned cold. “Cora, are you interrogating me right now? Are you treating me like a criminal? If you’ve got the guts, then keep me tied up! Do you think I’m a pushover just because I’ve been taking it calmly? To hell with you!”

He tried to struggle free to no avail, so he ended up spitting right at Cora.

“Joseph, you…” Cora didn’t manage to dodge it in time, and it splattered across her face. She started to feel a little panicked at Joseph’s defiance and took a few steps back.

Joseph glared at her. “Cora, no matter how unhappy I’ve been with you, I’ve never once tried to hurt you. But what about you? Your father had people beat me up, you set me up, and now you’ve tied me up. You restrict my freedom whenever you feel like it. Do you not even see me as human anymore?”

Cora retorted, “You forced me into this! Can’t we just live our lives peacefully? Why did you start going crazy and talking about divorce? Why did you drag Natalie into it? Do you think that’s the right thing to do?

Joseph said, “I forced you into it? If you think I’m crazy, then send me to a psychiatric hospital. Wouldn’t that solve all your problems?”
