A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 148

Chapter 148

Joseph was stunned. He knew deeply what it meant when a woman was drugged. It could destroy their reputation and ruin their lives.

As a victim of such actions himself, he hated such methods even more.

Without wasting another second, he left home to help Grace. Drawing on his knowledge of Jenton, he instructed her to drive toward Crest District, using the area’s complex road network to shake off anyone following her.

After several careful detours, Grace abandoned her car and successfully lost her pursuers.

Only then did Joseph pick her up.

With his headlights off, his vehicle slipped through the darkness stealthily before finally stopping at his laboratory.

“Drink a lot of water.” Joseph rummaged through his cabinets and drawers for electrolyte solutions and sedatives.

Grace said, “Joseph, it’s useless. I know what kind of drug this is. It can’t be resolved without a man.”

Joseph shook his head. “Not necessarily. Other people might not be able to help, but I can. The only problem is we’re not in a hospital. I don’t have enough medication here.”

Grace said, “I want you to help me, but I don’t want you to use medicine. I’ve heard about your scandal at the hospital, so I know you have the ability to.”

Joseph said hesitantly, “If you really want a man, you have no shortage of loyal men around you. If you let them help, they’ll probably become even more loyal. So why me?”

Joseph was a little disappointed. He had expected more from Grace.

Grace replied, “There are three reasons. You’re better than them. If I had a choice, I’d choose you. Second, you’re the man my mother-in-law approves of. She encouraged me to come to you. She probably hoped something would happen between us.

“Last, this is my silent contest against that unfaithful wife of yours. She probably never imagined that I would come to you after she had me drugged.”

Grace stood in front of the window, looking at the pitch-black sky outside. She noticed that the sky had never looked so dark. It was as if she were in the greatest crisis she’d ever been in.

Grace said softly, “Joseph, did you know that we’re in similar situations? My husband’s been missing for years. Everyone believes that he’s dead, except me.”
