Walt went to see Joseph to ask about the treatment plan for Jason and Avery.

Joseph went straight to the point. “Dr. Loughlin, do you really think our hospital is equipped to handle burn victims with injuries that severe? If you can’t handle the pressure from the Lowells, then transfer them back. As for me, there’s nothing more I can do. You’ll have to take charge personally.”

Walt protested, “But they’re members of the Lowell family…” 1

Joseph scoffed. “Does saying that help? Once the patients arrive here, can they be treated? How should we treat them? Those are the questions we should be asking. We simply don’t have the facilities for burns this severe. We should be sending them to a specialized burn center.”

Walt retorted, “Joseph, you’re letting your personal bias affect your judgment. You’re not fit to be a doctor.

Joseph snapped. “Dr. Loughlin, when you say that, have you ever asked yourself whether you’re acting like a doctor?”

Walt shrugged. “I have a clear conscience.”

Joseph sneered. “Good for you. You’re the hospital director. This hospital runs however you say it runs.”

Walt nodded. “So you still remember that I’m the director. Then here’s my order. Dr. Hart, make the necessary preparations. Take over the two burn patients and make sure they survive.”

Joseph answered calmly, “I’ll do my best.”

Then, he called Paige over and instructed her to prepare the ward to receive patients. 1

“Anything else?” Joseph asked Walt.

Walt added, “Joseph, I hope you won’t use your position for personal revenge. There are human lives at stake.”

Joseph laughed. “Moral blackmail really is a useful tool. The more incompetent a person is, the more skilled they become at using it.”

“You…” Walt hadn’t expected Joseph to be so harsh with his words. Unable to find a rebuttal, he went to receive the incoming patients.

Soon afterward, the patients arrived and were admitted to the intensive care ward.

“Dr. Hart, why were they transferred back again?” Paige asked privately.
