A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 154

Chapter 154

That afternoon, after the department meeting ended, Dave asked Joseph to step into his office and showed him a copy of a personnel transfer document. “The hospital has finalized the appointment of our new associate director. They’re just waiting for the right moment to hand over the position.”

Her name was Yvette Quinn, acting associate director at Croma Hospital. She was in charge of medical affairs and- disciplinary oversight.

Joseph looked at the photo of Yvette on Dave’s phone. She was a northern woman with strikingly refined features. Even at her age, it was clear that she had been a breathtaking beauty in her youth.

Joseph asked, “What do you mean by the right moment? Why not just have her take office now?”

Dave answered, “Dr. Quinn is being sent here to deal with problems. Before the problems arise, there is little reason to bring her over.”

Joseph raised an eyebrow. “Is there about to be trouble at the hospital? What kind of trouble?”

Dave leaned in closer. “Joseph, I’m only saying this because it’s just the two of us here. I wouldn’t dare talk like this with anyone else around.

“The people backing Dr. Quinn are already gathering materials. Once everything is exposed, the hospital will definitely go through a period of turmoil. That’s when she can step in and assume the position properly.”

Joseph sighed. “Even the hospital isn’t free of these things.”

He knew this was simply how society worked. Whether he was involved in it or not, there was nothing he could do to stop it. The only thing he could control was to stay true to himself and keep his own conscience clear.”

Dave then continued, “We have a few special patients with us. Is there really no way to cure Ernest, Dylan, Jason, and Avery?”

Joseph glanced at him. “You sat through the consultations. You don’t understand medicine, but you heard the conclusions clearly enough. So why are you asking me that?”

Dave said, “Joseph, don’t misunderstand me. I’ve just been hearing some rumors. I heard that you’re actually capable of curing them, but you’re deliberately holding back because of your wife.”

Joseph’s expression turned cold. “Bernard, Cora, and the Ashmores made up those rumors. They’re obviously trying to make me take the blame. I’m insignificant compared to them, so I can only watch while they spread whatever lies they want.

“But I’m sure that anyone who truly understands the situation wouldn’t fall for such ridiculous nonsense.”

Dave nodded firmly. “Exactly. Rumors die with the wise. Joseph, I believe in you.”
