“Cora, what the hell are you implying?” Joseph asked, hanging up with a sneer.

If he hadn’t already learned that none of his daughters were actually his, Joseph might have believed Cora’s story about working overtime. But now? He refused to believe a single word that came out of her mouth.

And from the few hints she’d dropped during the call, Joseph could tell that Cora’s lover was capable of handling the chaos caused by Jason’s absence from the project. That alone spoke volumes about the man’s abilities.

Then there were Marla’s remarks to Natalie. Everything pointed to the conclusion that her lover was a very capable man. 1

“Damn it! I’ll get him one day. When I do, I’ll make him wish he were dead.” Grinding his teeth, Joseph forced down the overwhelming hatred boiling inside him. After lunch, he received a call from a nurse that Ella had regained consciousness, so he headed right over.

“Joseph, you ambushed me! You’re despicable!” Ella immediately jumped out of bed and tried to attack Joseph. But a wave of dizziness struck her halfway through. She staggered wildly, almost crashing to the floor. Even the punch she threw missed completely. It was as though she couldn’t control her own body.

Joseph said calmly, “You’re suffering from a concussion right now. I’d advise you to stay in bed and rest. In your condition, forget about hitting me. You can barely protect yourself.”

Then, Joseph called in medical staff. Ella was placed back on the bed and secured with restraints to prevent her from wandering around and injuring herself.

Joseph made no move to harm her. In fact, he wasn’t even her attending physician. After briefly checking on her condition, he left.

At the elevator entrance, he saw a woman wearing sunglasses. The moment he recognized her as Lacey, his gaze turned cold and conflicted. After all, she had snuck into his dormitory and violated him.

He didn’t make any move to attack her. Instead, he merely led her into his office with a dark expression.
