A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199

The last thing Sally said before leaving was, “Your wife is Cora Lowell, the richest person in Jenton. How could you possibly be short on money?”

Joseph merely gave a bitter smile at the time. His lack of a direct answer was an answer in itself.

Over the past decade or two, he had never once worried about money because Cora was always there to support him. But in reality, he had never used her wealth to enjoy a lavish lifestyle.

His life remained as simple and humble as before. If Cora hadn’t insisted that “clothes made the man”, he probably would have worn the same clothes for a decade.

Wasn’t Cora’s sense of superiority, confidence, and arrogance simply due to her deep pockets? She could even get someone like Ella to work as her bodyguard just because she had money. Money really could make the world go round.

That was why Joseph wanted to make money quickly. As for Sally, her arrival was truly a godsend.

Still, he didn’t really know Sally, so he couldn’t actually listen to her nonsense and sleep with her. Doing so would only change the nature of things. Just as he was thinking about it, Grace’s mother-in-law, Mavis, called.

Because of what had happened between him and Grace, Joseph felt a sudden pang of guilt the moment he picked up the phone. He felt like he had wronged Mavis.

But then he remembered that she belonged to the Croma faction. Whatever their purpose, they had brought bloody chaos and fear to Jenton. With that in mind, he no longer felt any guilt.

Mavis’ call was brief. She just wanted to schedule a treatment time with Joseph. Joseph naturally had time, so he agreed to treat Mavis.

After hanging up, Joseph thought to himself that Mavis’ visit this time was definitely to get him to take a stand.

At noon, Grace invited him to lunch. Even though Cora had sent him a message telling him to keep his distance from Grace just as he arrived at the restaurant entrance, he still went in without hesitation.

“Since Mavis has made an appointment with you, I’ll have to do some prep work for her arrival. So I’ll be a bit busy and won’t be able to help you keep an eye on Cora for the time being,” Grace said as she accepted the medicine Joseph was handing her.
