Though Cora was furious, she held it in and didn’t lose her temper. After telling Natalie to get some rest, Cora calmly went downstairs.

When she walked past Joseph and Selena, who were eating, she just gave her usual little reminders before heading back to her room.

She took a thorough shower, spritzed on some alluring perfume, and lay in bed waiting for Joseph. Joseph naturally picked up on the signals she was putting out, and before long, they ended up in bed together again.

When it was over, Cora felt utterly exhausted. She didn’t want to move a muscle. And yet, she was wide awake.

In the soft glow of the light, she squinted slightly to watch Joseph as he slept soundly. A mix of obsession, guilt, regret, anger, and a need for control overwhelmed her all at once.

Logically, this man with whom she had shared a bed for nearly 20 years should, by all logic, have become someone she had grown tired of.

Yet she remained deeply attracted to his body. He was healthy, strong, well-proportioned, and had a naturally defined physique.

He didn’t have that stiff, fake look guys would get from living in the gym and pumping protein powder and steroids. And, of course, he had the skills to give her mind-blowing pleasure.

Every time they slept together, she felt deeply satisfied and perfectly relaxed. On a normal day, after busying herself with company affairs all day, a vigorous romp with Joseph at night, followed by a good night’s sleep, was exactly what she needed to wake up fully recharged for the next day.

That was exactly where Joseph was most valuable to her.

But lately, something had felt off about their sex life. It wasn’t like he was having guy problems like erectile dysfunction or anything. She just couldn’t feel his love anymore. It felt like he was just going through the motions, or maybe just using her to get off.

He was no longer as gentle as he used to be.

After they were done, he would simply roll over and pass out. He stopped cleaning her up, and he stopped being affectionate.
