“Tell me. Where the hell do all short compared to this guy? How did Cora end up cheating on me with him?”

Joseph and Grace had made it to the edge of Wayford Lake at that point. He still needed Grace’s resources to get back at Warren, so he didn’t hold back his suspicions about him.

“Warren Huff might not look nearly as good as you, but he’s a member of the Huff family. If Cora cheated with him, I can kind of understand it. He knows about all that fortune-telling stuff, he’s a smooth talker, and he’s pretty skilled at dealing with women.

“You… I asked you to trash him, so why are you saying I’m worse than him? That just makes me feel even more like a failure. Forget it. If you say I can’t compare to him, then I guess it’s normal for Cora to go find someone better.

“Sometimes the ugly guy gets the woman who is completely out of his league. Maybe Cora’s so much of a tramp that she gets off on being played by ugly men. What a bitch! Fuck!”

Joseph took a violent drag on his cigarette, burning through half of it in one go.

Grace had never seen Joseph this angry before, and for the first time, she sensed a dangerous side to him. “Joseph, you’re not in a calm state right now. I’m worried you might lose control and do something irreversible.”

“I would’ve stabbed that woman back at the company if I weren’t calm. After all, I had a scalpel on me when I went up there.”

Joseph lit another cigarette.

“Did Cora agree to the divorce?”

“She says unless I catch her and Warren in bed together, she’ll deny everything and refuse to divorce me.”

“You went to confront her when you didn’t even have proof of them in the act? That’s not like you at all.”

“I have my reasons. Frank is the one who told me about Warren. He is well acquainted with both Warren and Cora. If Frank suspects them, then there’s likely a reason for it.

“Plus, Cora seems deeply superstitious when it comes to Warren. At home, she kept a special breed of carp that he had gifted her, along with a golden turtle.
