In the afternoon, Joseph was working in his office when Cora unexpectedly knocked and walked in, holding a registration form from the hospital.

“Dr. Hart, someone hit me in the face. Treat it for me.”

Cora removed her mask, revealing the cut at the corner of her lip.

“Did you do it to yourself, or did Warren hit you?” Joseph asked coldly.

The slap from earlier that day should have long since faded. As for the marks on her face right now, they were obviously recent and could have only been made just minutes earlier. So it was either a self-inflicted act to gain sympathy, or Warren was behind it.

“It was you who hit me!”

Naturally, Cora wasn’t going to admit that she had done it to herself. Joseph wasn’t answering her calls, so she had to resort to this.

Cora had no intention of arguing with Joseph, fearing he might become violent again. Whenever he lost his temper, he would become completely unreasonable and out of control.

Cora believed Joseph still loved her. She knew that he responded better to gentleness than force. So she was sure that as long as she didn’t force a confrontation, there was little he could do.

Joseph had Cora open her mouth, took a look, and then handed her some topical ointment, anti-inflammatory pills, and an ice pack.

“Cora, I’ll say this again. If you don’t love me anymore and look down on me, you can simply ask for a divorce. I’ll agree to—”

“I love you, and I’m not divorcing you.”

“Don’t change the subject! The reality is that you had children with another man. You have zero shame, so what right do you have to say you love me?”

“You’re so dead set on believing the children aren’t yours that there’s no reasoning with you! Joseph, I love you. I’m not divorcing you!”
