A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 211

Chapter 211

Joseph held all the leverage right now, so Wendy had no choice. If she wanted priority access to Frank, she’d need to go through Joseph. Besides, Joseph already suspected Warren anyway. Telling him about the past wouldn’t really be betraying Warren.

Wendy sighed. “Right after I graduated from college, Frank brought me to a banquet. He said it was to help me gain some real- world experience. He introduced me to a lot of his friends, hoping I’d meet a suitable boyfriend.

“Warren was there as well, and that was my first time meeting him. He seemed to know everything, from history to geography to social issues, and even fortune-telling. Everything he said seemed to sound very intelligent.

“I became very interested in him, so I got his number, and we stayed in touch. One thing led to another, and we eventually became intimate.”

Joseph asked, “I see. How was he in bed?”

Wendy hesitated. “Do… Do I really have to answer that?”

Joseph nodded, causing Wendy to wonder what exactly he was trying to find out.

After a pause, Wendy said, “He was very gentle, and he respected me. He knew how to pleasure a woman as well. I felt good with him.”

Joseph felt a little irritated. “He won you over just like that?”

If Wendy could say that she felt good with him, it meant that Warren definitely knew what he was doing.

Wendy shook her head. “Not entirely. What attracted me the most was his knowledge and the way he carried himself. Later, he asked me to help manage his fish farm, the Celestial Farm.”

Joseph scoffed. “So he fancies himself as some sort of god? That makes sense. You raise fish for him, and whenever he wants to see his fish,’ he has a perfectly legitimate excuse to see you. Now, tell me about Cora and him.”

Wendy’s naivete meant that it was no surprise that Warren had managed to charm her. Joseph was now more interested in whether or not Cora had fallen for the same tricks. If she had, he would be very disappointed in her.

Wendy said, “Cora and Warren are very close, to the point where she almost trusts him blindly. Every time Warren has some new paintings or any other works of art, she goes to see them and often buys them.”
