Chapter 276
Joseph sneered. “I misunderstood you? Cora, when you finally face the consequences of your actions, you’ll understand how much you’ll regret all these so-called misunderstandings.”
Cora had only called to ask who Jenna was and what kind of relationship she had with Joseph. That conversation was meaningless, so Joseph hung up on the spot.
However, he couldn’t help but think that Jenna was incredibly immature. She actually went to his house to confront him. But since he wasn’t there, she leveled her threats straight at Cora.
When it came to the Zahn family’s medical experts and their top power players, there were certainly people who far outmatched her. She was just a piece they showed to the public. Behind the scenes, someone was probably already digging into every single secret he had.
Jenton seemed to be filled with dangerous people.
The thought of that made Joseph mentally retrace every step he’d taken during Kyle’s treatment. He only relaxed after he made sure there were no flaws.
In truth, he had used Jenna and the others to accomplish his goal. Kyle’s crimes had already been exposed, and there was no way the Zahn family could simply make everything disappear. The only way they could avoid criminal charges was to plead insanity.
Jenna and the others had intended to administer medication that would induce psychiatric symptoms to facilitate that. But forcing a healthy person to take drugs that cause hallucinations and psychosis would inevitably damage their body and mind.
Joseph had merely ensured that when Jenna fed Kyle the medication again, Kyle’s body would reach its limits. In the end, he descended into madness and died.
Since they wanted him insane, Joseph had merely let them have exactly what they wished for. He’d been extremely reluctant to turn medicine into a weapon and didn’t want to be forced to harm people.
Silently, Joseph prayed for peace. Only after calming himself did he head off to departmental meetings and other general work matters.
Jenna, meanwhile, behaved far more cautiously than she had the day before. She no longer acted as though she could do whatever she pleased around Joseph, nor did she treat him as an easy target. Instead, she carefully observed his work.
The more she watched, the more surprised she was. She realized that Joseph was exceptional when it came to medicine and approached things in a methodical, academic manner.
Could Kyle’s death really have nothing to do with Joseph?
After observing him for an entire morning, Jenna found nothing suspicious. Even though Joseph had stayed busy from start to finish, every single one of his procedures followed proper protocol.
At lunch, Jenna ordered delivery with the nurses, making sure not to get anything spicy. She made sure not to drink any water from Joseph as well. However, not long after she finished, Jenna suddenly felt stomach discomfort and developed dysentery.
She assumed it was because the takeout had upset her stomach and didn’t think much of it.
When she passed Joseph’s office afterward, she saw him studying medical records and refining treatment plans. She wondered where he got all that energy, considering he was already 40.

With nothing to do, Jenna sat idly at her workstation. A little while later, Joseph stepped out of his office. After asking around, she learned that he had been called to assist with an emergency operation in the Hand Surgery Department.

For all three hours Joseph was gone, Jenna was stuck in the restroom. By the time the ordeal finally ended, she felt entirely emptied out. Drained and exhausted, she decided to head home early to rest and have only plain food.
Unbeknownst to her, the real nightmare had just begun. No matter what she ate, she immediately had to run to the bathroom again.
