Chapter 282
Joseph sneered. “Of course, you refuse to get divorced. You’re the richest woman in Jenton now. You have wealth and power, so you can simply refuse. As long as I can’t find your lover, there’s nothing I can do.
“But the day you lose everything, your lover will have to protect you. When the time comes, you won’t be able to decide if we get a divorce or not anymore.”
Joseph understood one cruel truth about society. When a woman fell from grace, there was usually another man willing to protect her. But when a man fell from grace, most women would despise him, and those who didn’t would simply keep their distance.
He pushed those thoughts aside. Frank might be gone from the ICU department, but there were still other patients there. Most of them were critically ill. After all, the ICU was the place closest to the gates of hell.
At the end of his shift, Fiona knocked on the door and entered with a smile. “Joseph, when you and Cora have marital troubles, I’m always the one who suffers for it. You should really go and have a candlelit dinner with her.
Joseph replied, “Fiona, great timing. I’ve got something interesting with me. Give it a sniff and tell me if it’s a smell women like.”
Joseph took out an intricate little gift box from his drawer. Inside was a bottle of perfume. Handing it over, he let Fiona have a sniff.
Fiona thought it was a present Joseph had prepared for Cora, so she didn’t think too much about it. After uncapping the bottle and inhaling slightly, she praised, “This is a new release for the second half of the year. It costs thousands for just a bottle.
“I can’t believe you actually spent this much. I guess you still do care about Cora.”
Joseph remained silent as he handed Fiona another bottle. The moment he saw Fiona’s reaction, he knew he had succeeded.
“What kind of perfume is it? It’s disgusting…”
Before Fiona could even finish speaking, she started to vomit into the trash can.
Joseph calmly lifted the bottle and sniffed it himself. “I don’t smell anything strange. What’s wrong with you? Are you feeling sick?”
“I…” Fiona stared at Joseph in confusion. Why was Joseph completely fine? Just then, Paige walked into the room, showing absolutely no reaction at all.
Joseph handed Fiona a bottle of mouthwash, but the moment she took a sip, she started to gag again. Even when Joseph handed her a tissue, she felt a wave of nausea hit. She doubled over, retching until bitter bile came up.
Joseph calmly prescribed some anti-nausea medication before asking Fiona’s colleagues to drive her home. He watched as Fiona climbed into the car and started vomiting again.
That wouldn’t kill her, but it would make her feel miserable. Since Fiona chose not to help him with Cora, Joseph had to make sure she couldn’t interfere.
Everything was proceeding exactly as Joseph had planned. Fiona would spend the entire night vomiting. Anything she ate would come right back up. The symptoms would continue for another two days.
She would be admitted for IV fluids the next day. She would undergo every test imaginable, but would still be too weak and exhausted to think about anything else. A few days later, she would make a complete recovery. There
