A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 301

Chapter 301

After Joseph left the room, Kenneth called Katie over to talk in private and told her about Joseph’s unreasonable demands.

Taken aback, she said, “Well, that explains it! Jenna’s always been so proud. She even challenged Joseph to compete to see who’s a better doctor, but she still couldn’t get the better of him.

“That proves Joseph’s not just anybody. He has to be an extraordinary man to have become Bernard Lowell’s son- in-law.

“For the past ten years, he’s kept a low profile. But lately, he’s performed some of the most technically challenging surgeries.

“Even after Joseph was promoted to become the head of the medical team, he did a fantastic job too. After curing the poisoning, his medical skills and confidence are on another level.

“You were a fool to play right into his hands. Joseph would be an idiot not to seize the opportunity to control you.

“Stop lecturing me. What am I supposed to do now?”

“Just do as he says. Otherwise, you’re going to pay for this.”

“If I do as he says, I’ll become his pawn. I’ll be doomed.”

“Not necessarily. I have faith in him!” Katie glanced at Kenneth. “Tell me. Why are you so far behind Joseph? If you were as brilliant as he is, our family would already be rising to the top!”

“I…” Kenneth was deeply frustrated. Compared to Joseph, he really couldn’t measure up. He could only make arrangements and continue targeting the Townes.

Arthur invited Joseph to perform surgeries at the Traditional Medicine Center, but the latter turned down his offer. The hospital was no longer the same place he once knew.

The Traditional Medicine Center was already under the Zahn medical sect’s control. If Joseph went there right now, he would be walking right into a trap.

Bernard called Joseph again, asking him to head over to the Traditional Medicine Center to treat Maurice, but Joseph refused once more.

Bernard entered the study and found Cora sorting through some books. He said, “Joseph’s getting more and more out of line. He’s letting his talent go to his head and doesn’t listen to us anymore.”

“So what if he’s letting his talent go to his head? That’s because he’s earned it. Check this out. Look at all the books he’s read over the years.

“Back then, I thought he bought all these books just for show, The truth is, he’s read every single book and even remembered everything in them.

“Right now, he’s in charge of the entire department, so he can apply what he’s learned in practice. His medical skills only keep getting better and better,” Cora said.

“Can one really get that skilled in medicine just by reading a few books?” Bernard was doubtful.

“With solid basics and due diligence, you can get there. But if you want to become one of the best in the field, you need talent.

“Before we got married, Joseph had already shown immense talent in medicine. Otherwise, Walt wouldn’t have

gone out of his way to recruit him. Now that I think about it, I may have held Joseph back!”

Cora continued, “You can’t have both family and career. If you want to have a successful career, you have to become a workaholic.

“Likewise, if you’re caught up in family responsibilities, you can’t devote yourself fully to work. From now on Joseph won’t devote all his time to us. He’s going to become a workaholic.”
