Chapter 323
After Joseph left, Jonas came over to pick Shirley up.
“Did Joseph say anything? Did he set any conditions?” he asked.
“No.” Shirley shook her head. “He’s nothing like how you described him. You said he was useless, but that’s not true at all. He’s a genuinely skilled doctor. Jonas, you really should talk to him about whatever happened with his wife and clear things up as soon as possible.”
“What’s there to talk about? If anyone needs to explain, it’s Cora. She should be the one to talk to him, not me, Jonas said firmly.
He lit a cigar and drove with one hand. “Let’s continue observing things tonight. If nothing unexpected happens, we’ll transfer Mia out of Jenton University Hospital tomorrow. We can’t leave her in Joseph’s hands.”
“Then how are we going to thank him?” Shirley asked. “How much should we pay him? Or should we do something else?”
“You don’t need to worry about that.”
With that, Jonas shut the topic down. He clearly didn’t want to talk about Joseph.
Shirley started to say something, then swallowed the words.
Meanwhile, Joseph shook off Cora, who had been secretly tailing him, and went to Dolly’s villa. He treated Belinda there, then stayed at the villa to rest.
The next day, when he arrived at the hospital, he immediately received two critically ill patients transferred in from out of town. Saving them took almost his entire morning. But when both patients were pulled back from the brink, he felt a strong sense of accomplishment.
As soon as Mia’s treatment ended, Shirley applied to transfer her to another hospital. Joseph didn’t say much and simply had Shirley sign the necessary papers.
She also tried to get him to sign some kind of confidentiality agreement, but he ignored her. He also refused the money and the car she tried to give him.
“Joseph, if you don’t want anything, then why did you save Mia?” Shirley asked.
“I saved her because you got down on your knees and begged me,” Joseph replied. “You and Mia aren’t even related by blood, but you still knelt and pleaded with me to save her. That kind of kindness is worth my help.”
With that, he turned away and stopped responding to her.
After lunch, Joseph’s department unexpectedly received a boy of about ten years old, brought in by the police. He had been abandoned and left half-dead on the street. A kind person had called the police, and seeing that the boy was barely hanging on, the officers had rushed him to the hospital.
The moment Joseph saw the child, he got a very bad feeling. It wasn’t just the boy’s extreme thinness, but also his skin tone-he was so pale it was unnerving.
That sort of ghostly pallor came from years without sunlight, possibly from being locked up somewhere. It made Joseph think of an underground room used to keep people prisoner.
After a full examination, they found that all of the boy’s organs were intact. There was no evidence of organ

trafficking, but the boy was still terrifyingly weak.

From his pulse, Joseph could tell that the boy was severely lacking in vital fluids and energy. His life force was barely there.
After going through more test results, Joseph was able to pinpoint the main issue-the boy was suffering from severe anemia.
Was it due to blood donations?
But looking at the boy again, Joseph didn’t think that donating blood would’ve left him in such bad condition. He fell into deep thought.
Then, suddenly, inspiration struck.
Someone had been drawing the boy’s plasma! And that plasma, when transfused into elderly people, could make their bodies appear somewhat younger, achieving a certain degree of anti-aging.
This was bloodsucking. This was the most blatant, literal form of leeching off someone’s blood!
