A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 375

Chapter 375

With Cora, Jonas, and their people tearing the city apart looking for Shirley, Joseph wasn’t foolish enough to lay a finger on her. Besides, Shirley wasn’t Grace. She wasn’t capable of making him lose control and commit a crime.

Once Cora was certain Shirley hadn’t been assaulted and Joseph was innocent, she left the hospital too

She called Joseph to ask why Shirley had ended up with him. He said someone had dropped her off and requested that he treat her. As for who it was, he didn’t say.

He claimed to have received a call, telling him that Shirley was outside his office. He couldn’t just stand by and let her die, so he went to save her.

Cora was certain Joseph had never left the office, so she took his word for it. Still, she asked him to come home, but he turned her down, leaving her frustrated.

Early the next morning, Joseph received some unexpected visitors, who pulled up in an MPV. There were five of them, including the driver-three women and two men.

They worked under Grace and had stayed in Jenton to carry out tasks for her. They were also the ones who had abducted Shirley.

Before the hit, they had gone for some time without hearing from Grace. Growing restless, they decided to execute her last standing order. They never anticipated that Grace would suddenly die, leaving them completely leaderless. With Grace gone and nowhere left to turn, they chose to honor her instructions and seek out Joseph.

They didn’t belong to the Summers family or the Yeagers; they were entirely loyal to Grace. Now that she was dead, they were like a ship without a captain. Given Joseph’s relationship with her, they decided to turn to him for protection.

Joseph questioned the group about their situation. Seeing that they laid all their cards on the table without hesitation, he agreed to take them in. He used the five million dollars Peyton had given him to fund their operations, allowing them to remain hidden in Jenton.

At 10:00 am, the police unexpectedly showed up at Joseph’s door. For a split second, he thought they had caught wind of Grace’s rogue operatives.

But it turned out they wanted him at Jenton University Hospital to consult on a severe case involving an anemic teenager.
